As with alot of things in wrestling the title of "First Undisputed Champion" was a tool to get Jericho over even further. I mean Jericho still uses the "i best rock and austin in the same night" line.

Deserve it... probably not as many before and at present (at that time) probably deserved it more, but despite the honour would have been wasted on The Rock or Austin... Jericho needed it more than them and WWE knew that.

I agree with you 100% there and I believe that if that honor had went to the Rock or Austin it would not have meant as much as it did with Jericho, and it really put on that level with the Rock, Austin and dare I say Triple H. Talent wise Jericho was ten time better than those three but he did not have that one thing that could set him apart for those three, so letting him be the first ever undisputed champion help put him on that level but it also set him apart from them and their title runs. Let's face there are a lot of wrestlers who have World title runs and to be honest you could not tell the different the person they just won the title from, however, with Jericho becoming the undisputed World Champion that set him part from every World Title holder. He was the first ever undisputed champion and up that time there had been several world titles but Jericho was the first ever undisputed world champion since Lou Theaz or however you spell his last name, and that means a lot in wrestling history.
