That was a great read dude!  Hope to see more of these  ;)

It's always good to see people's perspective on these things, I'll be the first to admit, I like goofy gimmicks, for me I was brought up in that sort of era, I like personality to my guys, but like you I also like the stories to be told in the ring.  I like stories which keep with the depths of normality yet are entertaining and well written.  I'd say the current Punk vs. Hardy feud has been a great example of this, using Hardy's real life problems, the feud has happened for the most part in the ring though, it hasn't been littered with backstage segments and beat downs in people's homes, Smackdown as the wrestling show, with Vince paying little attention and having Hayes writing works for me.  I find the balance between wrestling and fun gimmicks.  Whereas something like RAW is a gimmicked mess, its not even a wrestling program anymore.  I'll be the first to admit I tried watching ROH on HDNET and many I just wasn't patient enough but after the first few shows I was a bit bored, the matches ticked all the boxes but there was nothing else that I "connected" with, the backstage segments just seemed so "Indy", and I've always been a fan of the whole package, titantron, cool entrance theme etc.  Maybe if I'd stuck with it more I would have connected more with the wrestlers, I do intend to give it another go at some point, one of my biggest problems is between 4 WWE shows a week and experiencing WCW for the first time via torrent downloads, I'm snowed under with my viewing.
