WWE's plans for Triple H to make his return at year's Summerslam have reportedly been put on hold due to Hunter undergoing surgery this week.
Hunter will be out of action between two and four months after tendon surgery in his upper arm, according to multiple reports, including Jason Powell at Prowrestling.net.
WWE seemed to be setting up their second-most-important PPV of the year to feature Hunter's grand return challenging current WWE champion Sheamus for the WWE Title.
Hunter was written off TV in April after the Extreme Rules PPV. Sheamus defeated Triple H in a WrestleMania re-match at the PPV, with the storyline being that Sheamus injured Hunter to put him on the shelf.
It remains to be seen how Hunter being out of action until the fall season will affect this month's Money in the Bank PPV.
Sheamus defends the WWE Title against John Cena in a steel cage match. When Hunter was in the picture, it was apparent Sheamus would retain the title to set up Hunter vs. Sheamus at Summerslam.
With Hunter now out of the picture, WWE will have to re-evaluate whether to keep the title on Sheamus and set up a different opponent or put the belt back on John Cena and set up an entirely new title match at Summerslam.
