Brodus Clay has his debut cancelled!
« on: December 24, 2011, 12:05:49 am »
Something fans may have wondered about in the past couple of weeks: just what happened to Brodus Clay's debut?

The monster was heavily pushed on various hype videos, was talked up greatly by interim Raw general manager John Laurinaitis and the anticipation for his debut had become one of the few things on a stagnant Raw brand to excite wrestling fans.

So what happened?

Well, as we noted a few weeks ago, it was reported by Mike Aldren that Clay had "shot himself in the foot," by tweeting that he was going to be on that week's episode of Raw to talk about soon-to-be-leaving star John Morrison.

On the following Raw, the credit for Morrison's injuries and exit from WWE went instead to main event wrestler The Miz, whose character was written to be on a rampage following his beatdown from John Cena and The Rock at Survivor Series.

This was a reckless and careless move by the former NXT rookie.

Indeed, as stars like former diva Melina can readily attest to, it's fairly obvious that WWE management frowns upon superstars opening up on Twitter, whether it's about relationship issues, insensitive jokes/remarks or, in this case, future storylines.

Notably, WWE wrestler and executive Triple H complained about wrestlers being too casual on social media in a recent interview, and mentioned he had had backstage meetings warning the wrestlers regarding being too candid about what they tweeted to the world.

In this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer backed up the story about Clay having garnered himself heat for his tweets, and noted that that Clay's debut may have been dropped entirely:

The Brodus Clay debuting next week angle seems to have been forgotten as they don't even mention his name now. Ever since he did that tweet the day before he was supposed to debut noting he was going to lay out John Morrison (this was the spot that was then changed to Miz), he's been forgotten about.

For the fans salivating for new stars on WWE's flagship show, this is a regrettable development.

While the jury is still out on Clay as a wrestler and performer (he impressed few on his season of NXT), his exciting hype videos indicated he showed great promise as WWE's next major monster heel.

Alas, Twitter claims another victim.

heat for his tweets

Sorry, for some reason this phrase made me laugh. :hihi:

I'm not quite sure how anticipated his debut was/is. I just assumed he'd bulldoze a jobber or two in a three minute squash match...

;D  It seems like he was supposed to have debuted for the last 2 months only to be postponed for whatever reason.

If he hadn't tweeted, annoyed management and had his debut nixed, I'd of won this WWE Game I tell thee!  Stupid Brodus!

This is **** hilarious.  They keep on moving the guys debut back and delaying it.  I wonder if they're going to develop an angle out of this.  It wouldn't be the first time that they fell into an angle/storyline by accident.

^ Seems they are going with making it a story/angle now

Brodus Clay was backstage at Monday's RAW Supershow from Memphis and was scheduled to debut on TV, squashing a local wrestler according to PWInsider.com. As plans changed through the day, once again Clay was bumped from the script.

WWE will be going with the storyline of Brodus being so pissed at the amount of times he's been pushed back on Raw, that he's even angrier than before. Officials do want to get Clay on TV as soon as possible to establish him as a monster. It is believed that at this point, as we reported, Brodus won't debut until Royal Rumble.

Really?

This is wrestling, you never know what will catch on. Undertaker started out as an undead zombie thing, John Cena was a white rapper.... Hell, Rikishi was a 'dancing fat guy' and while he may not have ever been a bona fide main eventer, he was still super popular back in the day.

Maybe its a sign of the poor product at the moment, but this is my highlight of RAW and Smackdown.  I really do find it hilarious.  And heck, it worked wonders for Rikishi.  The guy was over as hell until, "I did it...for... The Rock".  Sometimes we take things too seriously, its fun, and heck he's being booked to crush people.  I think he could do well with this gimmick.
