Your Top Three WWF/E Superstars of All Time!
« on: June 25, 2009, 11:51:18 am »
This is simply your faves, they don't have to be great wrestlers, its just about who YOU like.

1. Shawn Michaels - Starting watching wrestling in '90-'91 I was a big fan of The Rockers.  I wasn't long into watching before they split up, but I saw plenty more via old VHS tapes.  Not having Sky TV back then on which WWF was broadcast these old tapes in many ways were my main source of viewing.  I thought The Rockers were an amazing team (and really cool to...looking back now, the ring attire and mullets...haha).  When they split I was really into Michaels singles career.  It was odd to many of my mates because they liked all the babyfaces, but I always found Michaels entertaining, workrate back then wasn't an issue being a kid and all you just didn't care you liked who you thought was cool...or "Badass" (Cheap Billy Gunn pop).  My first real great memory of him was the '94 Royal Rumble.  Seeing him, a midcarder get to the final four I thought was quite the achievement, I was on the edge of my seat hoping and praying he'd win.  Mania X a few months later was the 1st PPV I saw live at my mates and that Ladder Match blew me away, that show will always hold good memories for me.  From that I popped big for his Rumble wins, his great title wins and defences, forming D-X, even his role as Commish.  Seeing him comeback though, it was like a miracle, after such an absence nobody expected it, and nobody expected him to be so good, but his bout with Triple H at Summerslam 2002 was an instant classic.  Then though they painted it as a one shot deal, to think now he is still going (true he is on hiatus) and not just that, rather than being washed up he has had an endless list of superb matches.  Just his Wrestlemania matches along are a treat, vs. Jericho, The Triple Threat at XX, vs. Angle, vs. Vince, vs. Cena, vs. Flair, vs. 'Taker this year.  I think it was Powerslam magazine who announced him as the greatest of all time, because on the mic and in the ring the dude always brings it, he just needs to see the same dude Chavo did about his hair.

2. Billy Gunn - Yes, I am a fan of people who have had multiple gimmicks (Darsow that means you, I'll get to you a minute).  Admittedly I wasn't the biggest Smoking Gunns fan, but I did find Rockabilly amusing and thought it had more potential than most did.  His transformation once he formed The New Age Outlaws with Jesse James was tremendous.  The guy become massively over (over night).  What many tend to think is he road the coattails of D-X and wasn't that good, I have to disagree.  The guy, for his big guy size was a very good in-ring performer, the Fameasser being one of my all time favourite finishers.  Add in moves like his quality dropkick, The Jackhammer, The One and Only secondary finisher, the Stinger Splash, The Ric Flair flop.  Fine he's no Kurt Angle, but he used what he had.  He was great at working the crowd in his matches to and getting them behind him.  I think I must be one of the few who remembers his KOTR '99 victory, winning with a quality fameasser off the 2nd rope onto X-Pac.  Its a shame his singles push didn't work out, injuries were a problem for him to.  His run as "The One" Billy Gunn had some highlights such as his short IC Run but his next big chance came as "Billy" in the team Billy & Chuck.  I still think the wedding segment with Bischoff unmasking was quality viewing.  Due to injuries this was really his last hurrah in WWE.  Hopefully he'll return one day.

3. "Macho Man" Randy Savage - Yeeeeaaah, Dig It!  Despite the great wrestler he was, his promos were always my favourite aspect, he really was off the hook in terms of crazyness.  One quality WCW one was when he talked about how he went to see a shrink and she told him he was OCD. "One Cool Dude!".  Honestly his match with Steamboat is really good but I never saw the feud/build-up, so maybe I would hold it in the really high esteem others do if I had.  One of his most underated feuds was his one with Jake Roberts.  And his heel World Title run which had the classic Mega Powers feud and Ultimate Warrior feud he "retired".  Only to be brought back because of Roberts ruining his wedding.  The scenes of Roberts setting the Snake on him and having it bite him, as well as Roberts slapping Elizabeth are Iconic, its a shame there blow off match was at "Tuesday in Texas" rather than at a bigger event.  In a effort to push younger talent they had him do too much announcing and not enough wrestling, thankfully he did have one last good feud with Crush and they had a cracking often overlooked effort at 'Mania X, which for the time, much like the Ladder Match on the card, it was damn brutal.  Currently I'm watching the Nitros from the start, and over a year in he's still in form, promowise and in-ring wise, you don't drop your veterans while they still have it!

Honourable Mentions
Barry Darsow, Marty Jannetty, Chris Jericho, Edge.

WOW, narrowing this down to 3 is damn near impossible.

1.Hulk Hogan: I was still mark out HUGE if he ever has another match. I absolutely love Hulk Hogan. I remember when I was a kid, we didn't have cable and only go NWA which later became WCW, Jerry Jarret's Continental Wrestling, Smoky Mountain Wrestling.. but no WWF. I would ask my dad about Hulk Hogan and if he ever saw him wrestle and I was just so intrigued by him. That was one of the best moments ever when I finally got to see him wrestle. I remember how upset I was when King Kong Bundy attacked Hogan and broke his ribs, or how scared I was when Andre came up behind Hulk and choked him out.  I remember the Big Boss Man hand cuffing him to the guardrail and beating him with his nightstick and I would yell and get all emotional and scream at the screen. When Hogan lost the title to The Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania VI, I cried. I was in disbelief and it felt like someone died. It was on April 1st and I thought it was some sort of April Fool's Joke. Hulk Hogan had the belt for damn near 3 years straight. There was no way he could lose.  Then once he joined WCW I immediately watched WCW. When he was in the nWO I always longed for the day he would go back to the Yellow and red.  WM when he faced the Rock how I was so delighted the pop he got over the Rock. Anyhow, Great charisma and I've never seen a bad Hogan match no matter how technically bad he was, he had such an IT factor, that his limited skill set didn't matter at all. Hogan had the greatest ring psychology of all time and I think he has somehow become underrated.

The next two changed my life immeasurably and it is very hard to differentiate between them so this is very close, damn near a tie situation.

2.HHH:  I started lifting weights because of HHH, I own about 5 HHH T shirts and I just absolutely idolize the guy. When I was going through a horrible stretch of life, HHH was someone I looked forward to every week to really give me a boost and motivation. I think due to his marriage to Stephanie, he now, like Hogan, gets a bad rap and doesn't get his just due. I think his wrestling ability and how he gets other guys over is amazing. The injuries have slowed him down a bit and his character needs to go back to being a heel but I personally have never seen a bad HHH match.

3.Chris Jericho: I can't begin to describe how much i love Chirs Jericho. From the first time I saw him in WCW, He was my favorite and one of those guys u know deserves to be on top but never got the chance. When he left WCW to go to WWE, I knew he would become one of the greatest ever.
I use to be very shy. I know that is hard to believe, but wrestling helped bust me out of my shell. Jericho's loud boisterous personality inspired me to be more outgoing and to let my personality out. I remember dressing up for Jericho for a Halloween party at a bar back in 1999 and I would do my Jericho promo **** and it was just hilarious. I had my hair all spiked and a glittery loud button down shirt on. It was hilarious and I kind of ran with that sort of over the top personality *as if u couldn't tell* Jericho is the greatest wrestler alive today. The stuff he has done since coming back has been remarkable. He is the best on the mic and he could make me look like a world champion in the ring.

Honorable mention:
1. HBK
2.Rock N Roll Express *favorite tag team*
3.Stone Cold
4.Scott Steiner
5.Rock

I dont pretend this list is ''the best'', this is purely my picks

3. Kane

In his prime he was....well, still a jobber. However he had a presence, a gimmick that worked and 'the right look'. In his steroid fueled days he looked like he could rip a phone book in half.

2. Kurt Angle

He can play just about any role WWE wanted him to - I remember him in the WCW invasion angle where Stone Cold and Angle used to hang out - Stone Cold's exasperation at the dim witted Angle was hilarious. Always fantastic in the ring he was the perfect opponent in any feud

1. Triple H

As a heel he's unsurpassed, he can wrestle a good match and he brings an intensity just when its needed. Make him a heel and bring back the Game

Never realised you were such a big fan dude, owning his Anthology I have come to believe in-ring wise he was underated, in his later career his overness carried him through medicore matches but in his early career he was pretty good in-ring wise anyway, never a technical master, but better than most remember, but I guess hobbling around in the ring for much of his later career has blurred people's memories.

Mines different to say the least.

1/ Bret Hart - The best face (and possibly wrestler) the company has ever seen

2/ The Rock - The Greatest Entertainer the Company has ever seen

3/ Austin - The Best Character the company has ever seen (maybe with Taker)

Honourable Mentions:

Hogan - Can't argue that the 3 above guys probally wouldn't have been there without the foundation guys like Hogan laid down for them.

RVD - More of a ECW RVD fan but still he was **** cool. The Jerry Lynn/RVD Living Dangerously Match is still the best match i have ever seen.

Angle - For a few years he was the best thing about WWE. Shame really.

Undertaker - So many memorable moments and his match with HBK this year shows he still has brilliance.

Edge/Jericho - Modern day brilliance

Best 3 for me would be

FACES

1- ROCK, no need to say more him and SCSA carried the company on their backs and no one could handle a mic before or since like the man

2- SCSA. I think Stone Cold was the backbone of WWE during the 90's TV wars you never knew he was going to say or do next, The guy made me turn in every night.

3- Bret Hart, watching him rize up from tag team gold to World Gold was amazing his fueds with Owen were top notch

Fav HEELS

1- Mr Perfect wether in the ring or at Ringside commentating loved the guy, His fueds with Texas Tornado were good.

2- Macho King, when he was in this role after his Hogan fued his work was great I remmeber the WM career ending match with Ultamatew warrior where he dropped 5 elbows on warrior and he stillgot up.

3-Owen Hart, his in ring skills were only at best matched by Bret, his fued with Bret was great, he played the heel character to a T. the younger brother living in the shadows.

TAG TEAMS

Demolition, i dont carry what anyone says i dont consider them a poor mans rip off of Road Warriors, I always thought Demolition was bigger in WWE then LOD, their gear and paint was much better and their characters yyou could cheer for.

Anyone with Owen hart, he made EVERYONE look good, anvil, koko b ware, yokozuna, they all looked better in the ring with him

Money Inc they were the team you just loved to hate, loved seeing this combination

FAV JOBBERS,
1- Barry Horowitz, he is the only guy who could possibly job to himself and still pat himself on the back for a good effort.

2- Bad News Brown, I remember saturday morning wrestling and knew when he was on TV somene was about to win, SOMEONE ELSE WHO EVER WAS IN THE RING WITH HIM

3- Brooklyn Brawler, Sure he smoked a Victory cigar BEFORE THE MATCH because we all knew he wouldnt be smoking one afterwards.

Greatest jobbers ever were Bill and Randy Mulkey

These dudes would get absolutely **** obliterated every show.

They won their final match against the Gladiators when one of the Gladiators went to slam mulkey and the other mulkey was on all fours and the gladiator tripped. mulkey landed on top and got the three

it was more shocking than UW over Hulk Hogan! ;D

In 1986, Nikita Koloff delivered the most brutal russian sickle/clothesline I have ever seen in my life. When Koloff threw Randy Mulkey against the ropes and then delivered it, Mulkey literally did a 360 in the air before hitting the mat. The brutality of it was stunning, and David Crockett/Tony Schaivone's reaction was priceless, and authentic.

Now I know Mulkey knew that was coming, and the two probably choreographed it a bit beforehand, but there is no way in hell that didn't hurt, and Mulkey is lucky he was able to walk away from it.

Have always hoped this match would show up on youtube. One of these days someone who owns all those NWA Saturday Night tapes will upload it.

This is going to be really tough for me. I have my number one by far but the other two are really tough to pick. I have so many wrestlers I have enjoyed watching over the years that it is really tough to pick just 3. But I will do my best.

1. Shawn Michaels aka HBK aka Mr. Wrestlemania aka The Show-Stopper aka The best wrestler the world has ever known. Hands down. Best ever. I love this man. He is a god in my eyes. I am definitely not worthy.  ;D From the days as a child rooting for The Rockers. Rooting for him to beat down Brett Hart in the iron man match. To growing up and seeing him just this year put on one of the best matches in his career. His entire career has been outstanding. Though not the best match, I will never forget his comeback match at summerslam and how excited I was to finally see him after 4 years. When I thought I would never see him in the squared circle again.  This guy made wrestling for me.

2. Mick Foley---I will never forget watching Nitro and actually being one of the people to flip over to watch him win his belt on raw.  ;D At the time I was at a friends and made him flip over cuz he was a huge WCW fan and I had to beg and plead to watch that match. I loved Mick, in all incarnations. He wasn't the best wrestler, but man was he entertaining. Now-a-days I wish he would hang it up but there was a time when I wanted to see everything he did. Only a couple of his matches were truly epic but there was just something about him I really enjoyed.

3. Edge. I liked him from the get go. But its the last few years that really made me like this guy. He has developed into what I think is the best heel in the industry today. I can't get enough of watching him. I hope he makes a good recovery and can headline Wrestlemania 26. But god, if you exist, please make sure the wwe doesn't make a huge **** mistake by making him a face. :(

Like I said, Number one is hands down the best wrestler I have ever seen. However number two and three could possibly include others such as Hulk Hogan, The hitman, Chris Jericho, Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertaker and this list could go on and on. But obviously there is something about Edge and Foley that had me put them in the top 3 ahead of other guys. What a tough thing to do. Top 3 wrestlers..damn.  :smoking:

Johnny Nitro or John Morrison or whatever name he wants to go by SUCKS!

I am in favor of CENA FREE WRESTLING!!

I miss HBK and Edge!

Thats it thats all I have to say...Because I'm Sober_Times, And I'm awweeesoomee!
