No Mercy and Cyber Sunday renamed and rebranded!
« on: June 27, 2009, 12:18:33 pm »
Source: PWInsider

- After sending out several surveys over the past few months, WWE has changed the name of a few upcoming pay-per-view events.

* The October 4th No Mercy pay-per-view is now called Hell in a Cell. This show is expected to have the top matches take place in a Hell in a Cell. At one point there was a plan to have Randy Orton vs. Triple H at SummerSlam in a Hell in a Cell match but that plan might be changed now.

* The Cyber Sunday pay-per-view on October 25th has been changed to WWE Annihilation. Presumably this will be the event with the top matches on the card having submission stipulations.

To call a PPV Hell in a Cell just seems lazy, fine its the theme but still.  I like the sound of Annihilation funnily enough it does sound a little strong for a submission ppv, with a name like that I'm hoping for finishes like Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin at WM13, someone passing out through the pain, covered in blood, hopefully by October they won't be PG anymore  ;D

Monster Magnet's cover of David Gilmour's "There's No Way Out of Here" as the offical theme song perhaps?  ;D

Ok, I'm sold.  :D

Although wouldn't the Hell in A Cell theme go with....No Way Out?

I remember when they originally came up with the choices and one was Rat in a Cage.  I thought if they choose that are they going to use the song Bullet with Butterfly Wings just like TNA did for Lockdown.

I'd rather have WarGames than an entire ppv of HITC matches. Someone in the office must have been watching TNA Lockdown.  ::)

Exactly, you can't always trust the dirtsheets but the word is he hates WCW so much he doesn't want to do anything they came up with, going as far as naming a PPV, The Bash rather than The Great American Bash, I'd rather they just brought back King of the Ring as a PPV.

16 Man Tournament.  6 Raw Guys, 6 Smackdown, 4 ECW.

Have the 6 RAW guys fight on RAW, 3 advance, same format for Smackdown and ECW has the 4 become 2.  So left with 8, put them on PPV, the event was great for elevating new talent.  King Ziggler anyone?  Yes?  Good times!

I said it on HTGTH, but having all the big matches on a card be HIAC is dumb.

The WWE always advertise the HIAC as this evil, dangerous match that can cause injury, shorten careers etc. Now they're saying "Well, it's not so bad that we can't have multiple HIAC matches at the one event." HIAC should only be used to end long-running main event feuds IMO.
"The lift doors are closing... leaving you trapped in an airless, windowless coffin, hurtling downwards at a hundred miles an hour."

I think the premise is only the Main Event/World Title matches are so you are looking at 2-3 depending on if they consider ECW worthy.  Same for the submission one.  Its still too much in my view, I don't think a gimmick should be used more than once on a show.  Take the Scramble matches, I only liked one, we didn't need three, if you want plenty of gimmick matches, mix it up, thats what I like about The Bash, 3 Stages of Hell, Scramble and Singles as the Main Events.
