The CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy Feud: Best thing going?
« on: July 04, 2009, 07:25:44 pm »
I really am enjoying this feud, maybe its just the comparison of it with the stale Orton and Triple H feud but its been played really well from the start.

CM Punk (babyface) cashes in his MITB on Jeff Hardy (babyface) after Jeff had finally won the World Title again.  Jeff who is known as a career screw up and someone who always blew his chances saw his chance at a good long reign shattered, as Punk said though, it was just smart on his part.  When you win MITB you win the opportunity to cash in whenever you want, he did it 12 months before against Edge and everyone loved him for it, because Edge was unpopular.  From Punk's perspective it was the Golden moment, after a Ladder Match he knew Hardy would be weak and he would have his best chance of winning and he did, smart or heelish?

Interviews and in-ring segments involved Hardy attacking Punk because he's not happy with Punk's explanation, who's the heel here?

A title defence by Punk on the 3 hour RAW was successful after Hardy thought he had the match won with Punk injured on the outside, but he had just enough in him to grab the win, cleanly.

Punk's carried on facing heels defeating the likes of Chris Jericho as well as babyfaces like Mysterio.

A few nights before his 1-on-1 title defence against Hardy he faced John Morrison (in a superb match) losing a very close bout, after he nailed Morrison with the GTS but immediately looked remorseful, as the commentator said, sometimes GOOD people do BAD things, Punk's a good guy.  Later he was a Guest Referee in the Tag Main Event of Mysterio/Hardy vs. Edge/Jericho.  Hardy got pinned when he was distracted by Punk, by distracted he looked at him and that briefly took his mind off the match and Edge who nailed him with a spear, Punk's fault?

Then to his title defence, Hardy pinned him when his foot was under the rope.  The referee immediately noticed his mistake, if he hadn't then Punk would have been robbed.  Hardy then lost his temper and ended up catching Punk in the eye blinding him, Punk having lost his bearings a bit accidently hit the referee and got disqualified, these mistakes can happen right?  Punk belives in competition and winning fairly.  Afterwards Hardy attacked him, clearly frustrated, but Punk was an injured man, surely Hardy is being heelish there, attacking a wounded guy.

Unfortunately on Superstars the injury flaired up again and he had to quit his match with Edge, that's just smart though if he had of carried on he could of suffered long term injury, maybe even being forced to vacate his title, this happened 12 months ago when Orton attacked him so clearly he is a little worried and why shouldn't he be.

On Smackdown he asked for an apology from Jeff since it wasn't right Hardy attacking him when he was hurt, did he get it?  No.  Punk retorted to Hardy about how he should "Just say no", clearly referring to his drug induced past, but as a Straight Edge superstar, things like that obviously annoy him, he prides himself on being clean.

In the Main Event he was struggling with his injury trying to walk it off and unfortunately he kept missing the tag from Hardy, but he did get in there eventually, and when he tried to tag Hardy back in, Jeff mocked him, faking an injury, making fun of Punk, clearly Hardy has his wires crossed because he thinks Punk is faking.  This all lead to Punk getting speared and pinned as Hardy made no effort to help him.

And that's the feud so far, an interesting dynamic and I'm intrigued as to where they will take it next and when they will pull the trigger on Punk's heel turn...

I like it too, though TBH I seem to be liking Punk more than Jeff as his descent into heel-dom continues. :D

I'd like to see a full-heel Punk but like you said, when will it finally happen??...

It sure is the best feud going. So far it has been booked brilliantly with alot of depth, Punk really has been excelling here.

Whereas Jeff just seems like a whiny kid who doesn't get his way all the time. I think that adds an interesting dynamic to it because Jeff is pushed to be a loved no matter what face whos following believe to them Punk has done something sinful whereas if Jeff did the same he would be rewarded. Punk has done nothing that any face wouldn't do since then aswell as giving answers for his actions but if no one knew Hardy they would presume he was heel due to his actions. That is why I think WWE can really milk this either way they go with it and make it the best in a long while (well since HBK/Jericho).

They have two ways of doing this, they could either do a long drawn out Punk heel turn as is most likely or they could totally suprise everyone and have Hardy turn heel with Punk an even stronger face due to it. Obviously the latter is very unlikely but it could be done with so much class and one could argue afterwards all the clues were there at the start. Either way this feud has alot of potential and will hopefully go on awhile. (If Hardy stays of course)

I know he is injured at the moment but I wonder if the transfer of Matt Hardy back to the brand was to figure him into the feud somehow.  I mean with both Matt and Jeff on the same brand now they are bound to cross paths unless rumours of Jeff taking time off/leaving are true.

From Matt's official Myspace:

The Hurdle Awaits..
..and I'm ready to cross it, jump it, or plow over it. Either way, I'm excited to enter into a new, better chapter of my life and career. A chapter that I've waited for many years to finally write.. and the time is now. For all my loyal and faithful peeps, thanks for always supporting and believing in me. Get ready, cause when I re-debut on Smackdown, nothing's gonna stop me-in the ring or in life..

One could speculate he's refering to a main event title run perhaps?

And with Teddy Long being forced to "shake things up" the match between Jeff and Punk at Night of Champions becomes a Triple Threat match at the last minute and Matt ends up winning the World Title due to Punk and Jeff's bickering.

Sigh...I can dream can't I?  ;D

Agreed, Jeff has kinda come off that way recently.

Love the way u think Axl4life.

Yes, I do enjoy the hardy/punk feud as well. Light years ahead of the HHH/Orton and Punk didn't even have to break into Hardy's house.

Its a tough one. Because i'm loving the Jericho vs Mysterio matches more but the storyline in the Punk vs Hardy is brilliant.

I like the fact that WWE has guys who some people boo and some cheer. Thats only natural in life. Thats why Cena always facinates me because he acts like a face but gets a 50/50 split.

WWE have been clever in doing this angle with Punk against Hardy who is probally as popular as they come in WWE, if they'd have done it against others the heelish actions would have probally gone unnoticed.

I'm not in such a rush for Punk to turn full heel. I like what they are doing with this. Although i think not tagging in is hard to defend but then they both did it.
