Aj as a heel, abyss 'real american', rings - reaction?
« on: April 29, 2010, 02:10:00 am »
once again izzy is 1million percent correct

comparing this to Goldberg Hogan is ridiculous cause WCW were pulling 3.5 to 4.0's and selling 200-300 thousand ppvs.

Impact are not even getting a 1. so yeah, they can wait and put Styles,RVD on PPV and sell 20k

OR they can build a buzz, get their rating up and the higher the rating the more PPV buyers u recruit

TNA would do better having 4 PPVs a year. They jumped too far ahead having 12.

I fully agree about Abyss and AJ though. For me AJ is too popular to be a convincing heel - hes definatly a face. I like Ric Flair as a manager but the whole mini naitch thing is just unconvincing. I remember not that long ago seeing interviews on TNA with AJ going on about his strong faith - now he's partying with bimbos and Ric Flair? Hmmm.

The Hogan/Abyss thing is just laughable. Is Hogans ego that big that even when he cant wrestle he just gets another wrestler to pretend to be him? Abyss is not championship material in my view. He needs to drop the special needs gimmick and just be a Kane like monster who destroys people. And perhaps not mentioned in this thread so far - whats with making your compeitions HOF ring the centerpiece of a storyline and putting it over as the most powerfull thing in wrestling? Why? What good does that do TNA other than make it look second rate to the WWE?

Drunk on power I split this topic - I think there is a seperate discussion to be had about TNA's storyline efforts that deserves a thread

AJ as a heel? Total fail. AJ is a likeable guy with awesome moves - he's been badly damaged by this angle and I wonder if he'll recover

Abyss as 'the real american' - it will feature on wrestlecrap for decades to come. The music would be laughable if Hogan used it. One of the worst angles to feature in TNA since the last Abyss angle...

HOF rings - this is the most puzzling angle ever made. TNA glorifying it's rival? The fact they are fighting for stupid rings? The fact these rings are given to anyone that didn't **** Vince off and are hardly prestigious!

The music is Hogans ex-WCW music. It was the first theme he used when he was still doing his 80's hulkamania act around 94/95. Its owned by Jimmy Hart i think - he used it on his Australia tour recently. Why they have Abyss using it i dont know.

Both AJ/Flair and Abyss/Hogan is kind of like a main event version of NXT at the moment.

The rings storyline is just dumb, even if WWE were doing it it'd look dumb, glorifying another promotion aside it just seems a strange storyline in the modern era, it's like Hogan's remembering back to some of the crazy coliseum video skits from the 80s.  AJ just needs to be a mute who has great matches, the funny thing is they align him with Flair, yet they let AJ talk loads, the dude is dressed these days like some goofy wannabe from an indie promotion, but even as a face, just doing the talking in the ring Styles, promo's will never be your strong point!

Agree on all of this. i cringe at how low rent and terrible this HOF ring thing is. Only thing that half saves it is Ric Flair who u want to believe is so convincing partly cause he is really shooting and knows what a ridiculous storyline it is.

Also shows WWE's power. Jeff Hardy was a major WWE star.. comes to TNA and Nothing.. weird.

TNA should've stayed on  Monday after Jan 4th. the had momentum but lack of a plan ahead and I agree with GNRfan on this, lack of planning ahead screwed them and their chance.

i think they would've been a viable threat had they stayed on after Jan 4th.

Or they could've been really smart and just stayed on Thursday for about a year and then challenged WWE a few weeks after WM.

The ring angle is some sort of attempt to appeal to kids, but it's utterly baffling stuff - not sure who's idea it was but if it was Russo this really should be his last angle

I don't think TNA is in a bad way because they didn't go to Monday immedietly - think they are doing badly because they do so much to annoy 'marginal' fans...
