(Editor's Note: I am hoping this could become this huge on this forums I am going to do my best do one of these once a week or however I feel like doing it. Also this is just for fun so reply back if you like it this or hate it I want to hear from you guys!
As D may have told you guys I use to be a pro wrestler on the indy scene. I have had the chance to meet some people who taught me the business and most I had to learn the hard way. I have been a wrestling fans since I was like 2 yrs old when my grandmother put in from of the television and let me watch Championship Wrestling From Georgia, and I was hook on wrestling since then! I have seen the raise and fall of some of the greatest wrestler, I have seen some of the greatest feuds and some of the worst gimmicks ever. I have over 30 yrs of wrestling knowledge both as a fan and as of wrestler I have had the luck of meeting some great minds in wrestling that have hold mold my view of pro wrestling, I am big fan of old school wrestling and believe that wrestling is still the greatest sport in the world!
As long as I can remember wrestling has always been around in some form whether it is on TV or at an old gym, wrestling as been around. I remember as a child going to high school gyms watching such superstars like "The Bullet" Bob Armstrong, Rock n Roll Express, The Stomper, The MoonDogs, wrestler who all have been forgotten by this new generation.
Wrestling as change so much since I was a little child, back in the days it was not about gimmick and big muscle it was about talent getting in that ring and telling a story inside that ring. Back in the old school era wrestling was 85% in ring skills 15% talk, today it is 10% in ring skills, 40% talk and 50% gimmick! What has happen to wrestling it is like gimmick matter more than getting inside that ring and telling a story, yeah that is what a wrestling match is all about telling a story. Let me take a little here to explain how things go in storylines and angles are suppose to go in wrestling.
Wrestler A and Wrestler B in battle over a major title, Wrestler A is the good guy and Wrestler B is the heel and is the champion. Now normal the feud would start with a non title match where Wrestler A would either win the match or take the Wrestler B to a time limited draw. This would make Wrestler B made because he is the champion and no one can beat him, so Wrestler B would hatch an evil plan to get back a Wrestler A. This where the storyline comes in as Wrestler B starts to attack and bad mouth Wrestler A and Wrestler B would even get into Wrestler A matches causing Wrestler A to lose these matches. Now we have a storyline now those 2 wrestler get inside the ring and this where the storytelling inside the ring that begins as the struggle between good and evil start. This where story really takes off because after weeks and even months of building storylines and angles, these two wrestlers get inside the ring and tell even more of the story, like passion, desire to win the title or desire to keep the title, and most important the battle between good vs. evil is told inside that ring.
Now I am not saying that all storyline have to start like this but it should give you a picture of how Storyline and angles are suppose to help set up the storytelling inside the ring to grab the attention of the wrestling fans. Sadly to say it does not happen like that anymore. Today wrestlers are more concern about getting their chance to shine inside the ring or getting their spots during match, and that do not care about telling the story that is suppose to help the fan to understand why this match happening.
Who is to blame for this? Well I am not going to say it is Vince's fault because I believe a lot of things that are happen in wrestling is blame on Vince, and to be honest it is not all his fault. Although some of this is his fault because he push for gimmicks and muscle bound wrestlers who have no or little talent at all. Another reason is most of your old school era wrestler have retired from wrestling and have not given back to wrestling. To be honest with you guys I don't know what happen all I know is wrestling needs to get back to storytelling and stop all the flash! Do not get me wrong I like to see high spots and moves that are crazy but they are all flash and no sizzle, you have a lot of matches that are flash and no sizzle. I don't know about you guys but I like a little meat and potatoes with my match I want to know see matches that where build up with angles and storylines, I want to see feuds that last longer that PPV and more on! I want to see matches that tell stories instead of filling up a card.
