I like the idea of poking fun at the current state of the genre. It was the ONLY direction for them to go. I wish they would ditch Scream 4 with these same characters and use a remake of the first film to do this with.

A sequel to this dead franchise just adds to the problem and may in fact make fun of itself instead. Just go balls deep with a remake.

Lake Bell has been forced to drop out of starring in Scream 4 due to a clash in her schedule.

Director Wes Craven had cast the It's Complicated actress as police deputy Judy Hicks, a high school friend of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), in the horror sequel. However, the part will now have to be recast with just four days until production is due to start.

Bell wrote on her Twitter page: "Sucks: Scheduling conflicts with my current gig means I cant do #Scream4! (Hey horror bloggers, I know who the killer is...) #i'llnevertell."

Scream 4 will begin production this Monday in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette joined by new franchise stars Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Hayden Panettiere and Lauren Graham.
