Team 3D Still IWGP Champions?
« on: August 05, 2009, 09:15:14 pm »
Source: Puroresufan.com

- It sounds like there may be some tension lingering between New Japan Pro Wrestling and TNA.

NJPW issued a press release earlier today to formally invalidate Team 3D’s IWGP Tag Team Title defense against The British Invasion on iMPACT last week where Brutus Magnus and Doug Williams captured the titles.

New Japan is not acknowledging the match or the title change. Team 3D are still the IWGP Tag Team Champions and their next defense of the belts will be one recognized by New Japan.

No word yet on how TNA will handle this or what the internal reaction is.

Seems odd that TNA didn't check with NJPW before switching their belts, I'm not surprised they are a little pissed.  I mean in Japan, Team 3D are massive draws, whereas the uber talented British Invasion will be largely unknown.

Allowing another company to settle title matched is truly bizarre...,

Well, I can understand NJPW reasoning for what they done, TNA had no right doing that and since it is NJPW titles only seems right they have a say in who the titles go around. I am looking for some backlash to come out this mess.

This comes from WRESTLING GLOBE NEWSLETTER concerning the recent IWGP tag team title switch and who's ideal it was to start with.

New Japan Pro Wrestling announced that they did not santion the IWGP title match where Team 3D dropped the belts to The British Invasion, and therefore Team 3D are still the recognised champions. Vince Russo was the mastermind behind the title switch, which is history repeating itself, as while booking WCW a few years ago he had Jushin Liger drop the IWGP Jr Hwt title to Juventud Guerrera on Nitro, which New Japan didn't sanction either. The tricky situation now is that the Brits are
scheduled to defend the titles against Beer Money at the Hard Justice PPV in Orlando.

You think that Russo would have learn his listen.

There's no excuse in the world for TNA doing this. One simple phone call would have been all it would have taken.

Their relationship with New Japan will be damaged too into the bargain.

...but are they big enough to matter to TNA?

Surely this adds 'spice' to the rematch?

Of course! They made a big deal of Team 3D actually being IWGP Tag Team Champions on iMPACT! episodes didn't they? It's a logical booking move for a rematch, but not if the belts in question aren't actually yours.

Silly Idiots!

Now they have to get the belts off the British invasion or i'd assume that they won't be around in TNA for much longer. Maybe they'll swap the tag matches at the PPV. Have Beer Money go up against Booker&Steiner and let 3D beat the invasion.

Its a shame coz the invasion are looking good

You laugh until you cry, You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe, Until their dying breath

New Japan Pro Wrestling is now officially recognizing TNA’s British Invasion (Brutus Magnus and Doug Williams) as the 53rd generation IWGP Tag Team Champions. This is a change from last week when New Japan issued a statement saying they were not acknowledging the title change on iMPACT two weeks ago with The British Invasion defeating Team 3D to become the new IWGP Tag Team Champions and that 3D were still the reigning champions.

While it isn’t known why the company changed their stance so quickly, the belief is that some outside pressure caused them to do so.
