"Armageddon" becomes "Tables, Ladders & Chairs" (Oh my!)
« on: September 06, 2009, 09:36:40 pm »
According to a Ticketmaster advertisement, WWE has officially changed its December "Armageddon" PPV to "TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs." It seems as if this will be another themed PPV as WWE has been doing lately.

Another themed show/new named event.

So new events we have are, Breaking Point, Bragging Rights, Hell in a Cell & Tables, Ladders & Chairs.

I'm happy with name changes, but as long as they aren't permanent, just have the 4 main ones and the rest with changing names, thats what I always liked about the IYH events, the first 28 or so were all different names.

Also cool when they have a name that can be incorporated into a promo without sounding stupid.

Like this week on Smackdown, it didn't sound dumb when Punk was cutting his "I have no breaking point" promo.

Yeah i know what you mean.

Bragging Rights i'm hoping is a concept that i've long been waiting for and its Brand vs Brand. I think that could be an awesome PPV. People teaming up that hate each other with kinda like a Ryder Cup like scoring system. Each Brand has the chance at 4 points or something like that.

The Hell in a Cell & TLC PPV are only good if they take the restrictions off. There is no point if they say to Evan Bourne.... don't outshine the bigger names. If they let people come up with their own ideas and try and put on the best matches then it could work. if they start dictating to people the matches then i don't think the idea will work

I think everything is too saturated now

Brand Split needs to go, It was fine when Wrestling was still booming, but now it is pointless

And now, Way too many PPV's, seriously who could afford to buy all these damn PPV's?

I think they'd do better buy rates with less PPV's and would be able to stretch feuds out.

One a month is fine... anything more than that i've always thought was too much

A TLC or HIAC match can be a huge highlight

An entire PPV can be hyped on this single match

...a whole PPV of it is just OTT, these great matches are being devalued

The HIAC has been naff for years - a PG version will be a joke

...and TLC only works with some sick bumps - you need Jeff Hardy or Mick Foley around - imagine an Orton v Cena v Triple H TLC? How could that work?

If they are going with this months theme then its not ALL the matches, just the "Main Event" ones which get the gimmick.

I'm hoping this isn't going to be a permanent thing. Even if it's just the main events, having multiple TLC Matches on one card is overkill. The same with HIAC. I've said it before, but matches like HIAC and TLC should be kept to one - two at the most - a year. IMO they should only be brought out to end major feuds.

Having all main events as TLC Matches or whatever just seems like a bit of a desperate move to me. "You like TLC Matches right? Well, this PPV will have more than one! Buy it!!"

Will it be PPVs with all main events being Inferno Matches next? All Buried Alive Matches?? Surely there must be easier ways to make PPVs more unique than diluting the impact of what should be brutal, memorable matches....

^ Agreed but they do it because its the old school wrestling mentality...

"It sounds cool to kids".

Guess what kids, we aren't just gonna have one HIAC match, but a whole PPV's worth...."Wow"

Heck look at WCW, in an attempt to compete with WWE's Royal Rumble, they had World War 3 - 60 Man Battle Royal, because it sounds bigger and better, heck it has twice as many wrestlers, in reality its a complete clusterfuck and a waste of time, but by the time you've realised you have already bought the PPV.

It'd made more sense in many ways to have King of the Ring back as a PPV, always a great way to elevate new talent, I guess its not cool enough for the kids these days though  8)

Oh and Gnrfan, I read Bragging Rights was just going to be Cyber Sunday under a different name....  :(

Thats rubbish. I'd really like a Brand on Brand PPV once a year. No titles on the line. Just Brand respect. They'd have to be some sort of incentive for the brand to win.... Maybe a pick in the next draft or something or anything that suits at the time.

I think a PPV needs gimmick matches - everytime we get a Backlash style PPV I just die

Give me inferno matches and last rites matches!

...but you cant over use one match type - just look at whats happened to the cage match

We already get that overused on TV shows, especially around "Wrestlemania" time, when the concept of the draft is basically ignored for a few weeks. Then there's two of the other big four PPVs's, "Royal Rumble" and "Survivor Series".

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that at this point, WWE's Tables, Ladders and Chairs PPV in December will NOT feature several TLC matches as Breaking Point did with Submission matches and Hell in a Cell will with Cell matches. Instead, WWE plans to have one TLC match main event the show, then have a tables match and a ladder match separately on the undercard. This is the plan as of now, and of course things can always change.
