Is Triple H in the top 10 best wrestlers of the modern age?
« on: October 19, 2009, 08:47:37 pm »
People have no idea what to think about Triple H - people will claim to despise him and yet wait to the end to see all his matches...

Triple H was THE reason i watched wrestling at the start - and its not that much different even now - i returned to WWE after a 5 year exile (brought about by Flair btw) but even then I watched whichever brand he was on

These days I'm more intrested by TNA to really care what he's up to - but his appearence at Smackdown during the London shows was the reason I bought my ticket

For me - he has to be right up there, Austin, Rock, Hogan, Triple H (not necesserily in that order mind you). In his glory days his mic skills were spot on, his ring work was always what the match needed and he was the engine behind any feud he was a part of

These days he's lost the fire - 13 titles will do that (and the lack of any real rival...) but i think he will stand among the legends of the business

He's a very different character to Austin and The Rock - he's never been as extrovert as they were, doesnt have the catch phrases or some iconic ''moment'' - but in the good ol' days he was the cog that made everything else move - if Austin and Rock were awesome they owe a lot to Triple H who was a big enough villian for them to be a big enough hero...

Probably in terms of 'status'. Of the modern era, I'd pick him, Hogan, Austin, Rock, Michaels, Undertaker, Angle, Benoit, Flair and maybe Jericho as the 'biggest stars'. Obviously there's others, but that's what my mind says just now.

In terms of actual wrestling ability.... I have no idea. :P

His 1999-2002 years were superb!  Since then he has been hit and miss, there was a time a match of his made me excited, now for the most part I think, boring, I think though if you took all his great matches you could make a 5 or 6 Disc DVD and his best promos would stretch it to a few more, its funny but I think in many ways he has it all and has no motivation at the moment, I'd argue in the past few years he has seemed bored for the most part.

Exactly, he's bored.

When I suggest he's in the top 10 best wrestlers I am meaning the whole package - not just actual mat wrestling. Clearly he's no Kurt Angle - but then again, has he ever tried to be?

Clearly, but its been so long since I've been impressed with the "Whole package" its sometimes hard to remember when he was really decent, but as I said I do remember 1999-2002 he was must see tv for me, promo and in-ring wise, although Rock and Austin were in a class of their own promo wise, I always looked forward to Triple H's matches more.  Although speaking of Austin, the 3 Ways to Hell (Or whatever it was called), many years back was an all time classic!
