Colt Cabana calls WWE "Ignorant"
« on: March 11, 2010, 01:11:34 pm »
FORMER WWE Superstar Colt Cabana has branded the company as "ignorant" and their use of him "upsetting".
The independent wrestling star — who was transformed into the character of Scotty Goldman on WWE TV — expressed his distaste for a handful of figures who misused him, claiming it was because they didn't know who he was.

In an exclusive interview, he singled out WWE boss Vince McMahon and head of talent John Laurinaitis for their roles in not letting him be himself.

Despite Cabana's success in Ring Of Honor, both before and after his time with WWE, as Goldman he was used infrequently, lost every match he had and then unceremoniously let go.

Speaking on the One Sided Ring Podcast, hosted by SunSport's Rob McNichol, Cabana blasted: "When I got called up the writers all wanted me to be Colt Cabana but John Laurinaitis came up to me the day I was supposed due to debut, with all my Colt gear, he was like 'you can't be Colt Cabana because we want to own it'.

"They were going to call me Scott Colton, which is my real name, but Vince McMahon knew my heritage was of the Jewish sort, so they just changed it from 'Colton' to 'Goldman'.

"That was the creative process that went into my name.

"It was almost like there were two different types of people in WWE. There was the people who knew who I was, and the people who had no clue who I was.

"The people who knew who I was were the ones that liked me doing commentary, were the ones who fought to get me my own Internet show.

"I was never able to develop as a wrestler or a person.

"It was upsetting and ignorant."

During the interview, Colt also expressed his regret that he was not with the company when they founded the recent NXT format, calling up eight rookies from developmental territory FCW.

His friend and fellow ROH Alumnus Bryan Danielson is on the show now, and Cabana feels that it could have been him.

He said: "Timing is everything. I think that show was made for me.

"I think I would have been on that list. A guy like Heath Slater who has been around there forever, they are constantly giving him darks [tryout matches] and bringing him up and they don't what to do with him.

"It's a perfect scenario for these guys they don't know what to do with. Just let them go on TV and be themselves. A little bit of me is like 'man, what I could do with that'.

"I was happy when I heard Byron Saxton got called up to do commentary, it didn't bother me. I was happy when some of my friends got called up to the road, that didn't bother me.

"But when I saw that opportunity for NXT and I knew I wasn't in it, that kinda hit me in the heart a little bit."

Listen to the full interview, featuring Colt Cabana talking about his new documentary with Bryan Danielson, his comedy tour alongside Mick Foley, the prospect of wrestling for TNA and much more on episode four of The One Sided Ring Podcast, available on iTunes.

What I found interesting about this article is how Colt, like so many former, ex, or non/never wwe wrestlers like/appreciate NXT, it really seems to be getting critical acclaim in the wrestling community (and deservedly so too).
