True Reason WWE is lacking
« on: July 05, 2010, 08:11:51 am »
Saw it last night at the UFC

U can't replace stars like Stone Cold and The Rock and now even Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle and all the others that have went on.

Stone Cold and The Rock were once in a lifetime showmen that were wrestling. they lived it, breathed it, came up with most of their stuff themselves right? I remember Stone Cold saying he came up with the "What" thing by talking to Christian on a shitty cellphone and every time Christian would talk he'd say "WHAT?"

U have shitty TV writers who have no idea what to do with the talent.

Ur two biggest stars right now are basically John Cena and Randy Orton... now compare that to Austin and The Rock.

WWE also went south when Vince took the company public. As a privately owned business, he could do what he wanted cause he had nobody to answer to.

Now with shareholders/investers etc.. WWE went from a family business to a massive corporation.
So going PG is to keep kids interested *cause kids are the ones who buy the toys and T Shirts etc.. not too many 30 year old guys buy tons of merch, and they have to make sure they keep Fortune 500 sponsors.

Couple that with Chris Benoit and no competition and we are left with a terrible wrestling program pretty much every week.

To me the writing has always been the biggest problem, especially after Stephanie McMahon-Leveque gained power.  There were complaints about the writing (specifically RAW) for years dating back to when Austin was still an active wrestler.  It's no surprise that the other show (smackdown) that she has very little imput on has put on the better product now for several years.

Brian Gerwitz, one of the main writers on RAW, has an entertainment background and doesn't know how to properly write a wrestling show.  Add that to several factors (McMahons adding on their suggestions, wrestlers protecting their spot, move to PG era programming) and you have a giant **** mess as you state.

I do think you have to blame Vince for two things--embracing the change from wrestling to sports entertainment and picking the wrong McMahon to run RAW.  From all I've read, Shane would be a far better showrunner/main creative force on RAW, as I think he is more in tune with what us fans want.  By "us fans" I mean the **** wrestling fan base and not the kiddies.

You have a valid point in that the wrestlers main eventing now lack charisma and ability to work a match consistently.  I will say that Cena does well in brawling style matches though.  He can't really carry a match by himself.

You gotta add the Senate run of Linda McMahon to the reasons of the  defanging of Raw.  If she wasn't running for the US Senate, and WWE saw their bad ratings, I'd be willing to bet that they would at least try to change their PG format.  They probably would return to the "Attitude era stylings" but I'd be willing to venture that they would at least embrace other ideas.

WWE isn't totally brain dead as they do put on a decent PPV show for most months.

The show is terrible compared to 96-01, but I have enjoyed WWE as of late. Can you honestly say who will win the MITB matches? I can't say who wins the RAW and SD ones 100% yet. That is good!

Of coarse Rock and Stone Cold were great, but sometimes I feel we were spoiled, and we have to compare everything to the golden era. I appreciate the good things we have today. Not many good things, but I appreciate it.

Also Slash, I agree that they do put on at least a decent PPV on most months. I am not letdown often from their PPV's.

Hey D, I agree with everything you said my friend the WWE is too busy looking for the next big thing and it is causing the product to slip bad.

I remember then the WWE would let the talent grow and bloom on it's own or they would put new talent into a program with the older talent that was over and let that talent bring the new talent along to the point were the new talent was ready. You do not see that no more not only in the WWE but in wrestling period, take baseball for example when a team signs a hot talent they do not stick it right into the fire no they bring it a long in the farm system. The WWE has been spoiled with The Rock, Austin, Angle, ect that they have forgotten what it took to make those wrestlers.

The next thing is the WWE has forgotten what the name of the game is and that is wrestling, long gone are the Flair, Rhodes, and other legends who could wrestle and entertain the crowd while all along making what they did inside that ring look so damn real! Now it is all about gimmicks do not get me wrong gimmicks help make a wrestler but it seems too me that the WWE cares more about gimmick than wrestling.

If you ask me the WWE is a sinking ship and it is only going to get worst until Vince fix what is wrong with his product.
My heart burns with a desire as it screams out for me to show you the error of your ways, and set you on the path of Righteousness!

Guys need more creative freedom, you look at the prime years and guys were just given a mic and told to roll with it, guys ditched the phoney characters and got to be themselves with the volume turned up.

The Ringmaster, Rocky Maivia, Hunter Hearst Helmsley became Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H.

I often believe the talent is on the roster but they are held back by creative not allowing them to do or be themselves.

Look at the aggression and passion Daniel Bryan showed when he was allowed to do what he wanted, it looked great and brutal and got heat and a shocked response, shame it got him fired to.
