Sitcoms/Shows You're Currently Watching
« on: June 26, 2009, 12:50:24 pm »
I've just recently discovered the american sitcom "The King of Queens." I must say it's fantastic, finished the first season in a few days. Gonna order the second season tomorrow. I've never been a fan of American sitcoms, infact I don't usually watch any TV, just movies but after watching all the seasons of  "Two and a Half Men" (which was the first American sitcom I've ever watched) my friend recommended this.

I know it's old and the show has finished but does anyone else watch this?

Lost is the big show for me these days. It's ending next year with the sixth and final season, and whilst I'm going to miss it, I'll be glad it's going to end on a high.

Other shows I watch are Fringe and Lie to Me, both of which have their second seasons starting in the autumn. They are more standalone than Lost in their episode structure. Lie to Me is a real treat when Tim Roth rips apart some criminal to shreds, haha.

Nice thread idea.  I watch far too many current tv shows.  Its a dead cert I'll forget some.  I won't mention recently cancelled/finished shows because there would be too many then.

Rescue Me's latest season is excellent the best since the first, finding the right blend of humour, drama and the use of music for dramatic scenes at just the right time, Denis Leary does wonders with this and the theme, C'Mon C'Mon by The Von Bondies is quality as well.

I'm also a long time Lost, me and Evolution have had many a conversation about it.  Its had its ups and downs but is ultimately a gripping program, I'm gutted in a way its ending and more so that they've told us, I'm never really that happy when I know somethings going to finish, I like to think my fave show can keep the quality and keep going forever, true it can't but its a nice thought.

Supernatural is fun and the classic rock music and references are pretty cool.

I've started watching The Wire on BBC2 as well, its one of those shows I can only watch on my own with peace and quite when I'm not tired.  Recommended by HTGTH alumni Jim its a rewarding program to watch but also taxing at the same time, its worth it though.

30 Rock is one of the funniest shows on television and rightly gets lots of awards, although the ratings I have read for it are shocking, I don't understand why it hasn't caught on.

I like a balance between no-brainer shows and "Intelligent" programs.

One of my recent additions to no brainer shows is Harper's Island which is basically a horror film stretched over 13 episodes, with a guarantee one or more people will die each episode, I find it highly entertaining.

Also like Evolution I picked up Fringe and Lie to Me.  I've only seen a few Lie to Me episodes, the rest are backed up on my sky planner, but so far so good.  Fringe on the other hand has blown me away, if I was pushed to pick a favourite tv show I'd probably have to go with this, they have added so much depth and there is scope for crazy places they can take it, yet it remains smooth, sophisticated and intelligent, and it fits humour in perfectly.

Nip/Tuck's another, it may get really stupid and has probably jumped the shark but its so funny you can look past how absurd it has gotten from its first season.

Strange, thats less than I thought, admittedly some have been cancelled, I'm still thinking I've forgotten some...

I got into Dexter last week and I have knocked out the first 2 seasons in 5 days.

Got the other season yesterday and I am on Episode 3 right now.

I don't watch a lot of TV series anymore cause the last 3 or 4 I got into got canceled so i stopped bothering.

Rescue me has been fantastic this season

Nip/Tuck is another one of my favorites

I have heard great things about Sons of Anarchy and I am going to have to check it out.

Cool thing is, I never got HBO or Showtime, so now with Netflix, I am going to watch shows I never go to.

I am going to watch Six Feet Under and then The Sopranos followed by The Wire.

What is cool is, I don't have to wait to find out what happens.

I remember when my brother loaned me the first 3 seasons of "The Shield" I sit up day and night watching it and I bet I knocked out 3 seasons in one week. still the best TV show ever IMO.

See, I said I'd forget something, its a quality show, and next season Jon Lithgow is joining the cast, with a quality actor like that it should maintain its high standard.  I keep meaning to get the books.

I take it I'm the only here who watches "Heroes"...?

When I was going to college last year, before the second series started on BBC 2, it was only overdubbed in popularity by "Top Gear".

Once again another show I forgot.  Yeap I watch Heroes.  The second season was a bit meh but I enjoyed the last season until the finale.

What has always annoyed me with Heroes is you would think Vince Russo scripted it.  I've lost count of the amount of people who have died only to comeback and every time I think, dammit, Russo Swerve again!  What it messes up is when they have a really emotional death you find it hard to get into it because you just think, nah they'll be back in a few weeks.

I wish they would get Christopher Ecclestion back he was good in his short time, as was Eric Roberts (shame he died).  Once I start with a show it really does have to get bad for me to stop watching it, my addicitive personality keeps me watching shows to the death.

I could be confusing this but I think I read T-Bag of Prison Break is joining next season, now he is a quality actor!  Oh and hasn't the main writer/creator left?

Can't remember the song in the 11th Episode but i'll go listen. But i am up to date with the show. Just waiting for the last two episodes now. I think they are airing in one night.

I remember Translantisism by Death Cab in one episode and i love that song.

How I Met Your Mother

Great choice! Thats been my favourite show since I first watched it on BBC2. Neil Patrick Harris is just fantastic and makes Barney the ultimate sitcom star, almost Fonz like.

I really wish there would be more sitcoms on TV, anyway here's the list:

House
Seinfeld reruns
Law and Order CI
Law and Order SVU
Burn Notice
Leverage
Monk

The last two are scheduled to be on later in the summer.  It'll be the final season for Monk and I'll be tuning in for that one even though I haven't seen it in a while.  They're bringing back Sharona too which is nice.  I only watch SVU for unintentional humor.  Anybody catch the SVU season finale?  Funniest stuff I've seen in a while.

I caught Heroes S1 a while back and thought it was great.  Loved the inclusion of Christopher Eccleston.  At some point I'll watch S2 but I'm kinda weary of it since I read that most people don't like it.

I'll be watching Fawlty Towers pretty soon and am pretty stoked about that.  For the Dexter fans, what did you guys think about S3, I was pretty disappointed with it compared with the first two seasons?

Slighty OT:  Several of the members of this board are from the UK correct?  Are they going to show another season of Hustle?  I read that Adrian Lester had signed back on as Mickey but Jamie Murray and Marc Warren aren't going to be part of this year.
