What matches/feuds should have happened?
« on: August 28, 2009, 07:44:14 pm »
I was inspired to write this after reading this months Powerslam.

In answering a readers question over whether Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan ever faced off in WCW the answer was, they fought to a no contest on Nitro in '98 and to 3 no contests on house shows, how the hell did they miss out on this feud.

I realise when he came in it was the same time as the climax (blown climax) of the Hogan vs. Sting feud but surely the next big build should have been Bret Hart vs. Hulk Hogan, that is a massive feud.

Its a shame these guys never got that "Big" match.  They had a chance in 1993 in WWF, Hogan was meant to put Bret over at King of the Ring (pass the torch so to speak), but he said Bret was ready and did the job to the awful Yokozuna instead.

Another that comes to mind is Flair vs. Hogan in WWF.  When Flair was signed the chance was golden, the 2 even feuded for a while, Flair cost Hogan his title, but post Flair's title win they switched things and Flair battled Savage at Wrestlemania instead, that match should have been Flair vs. Hogan, I understand they met once at a house show (which is on a recent WWE DVD that I intend to pick up) but this feud at that time would have been fantastic, especially since Flair had originally shown up wearing the WCW Heavyweight Title.

Another obvious one is Hogan vs. Austin, obviously.

Bret vs Hogan would have been brilliant. I get the impression that both of them would of been against losing the feud though, which may have caused the feud to be a non-starter.

Sting vs Undertaker. I've always wanted to see it.... both have similar roles and the build up would be brilliant i think. Ultimate mind games!

RVD vs AJ Styles. Always wanted to see this match.

This is how it works, You're young until you're not
You love until you don't, You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry, You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe, Until their dying breath

Mcmahon should have thrown blank checks at Flair and Ted Turner in 1989 and acquired Flair. Hogan vs Flair was the dream match to end all dream matches for that entire decade, and its a travesty that the match did not occur during the tail end of that decade.

Millions of people wanted to see it, including people who didn't watch religiously. Even wrestling magazines used to have fantasy matches between the two on a regular basis several times a year. It would have made the Hogan/Andre spectacle look like a dark match.

Those mags(and fans) used to also dream of the top 3 champs of that era(Hogan.Flair, Martel) doing a battle to see who the real champ was. Strangely, Flair actually wrestled Martel in some obscure match in Japan that totally flew under the radar.

Crockett and/or Turner should have approached Mcmahon about a Hogan vs Flair match as a main event at a Crockett Cup and split the revenue. They were at war though so no chance of it happening obviously.

McMahon also totally missed the boat on Steamboat/Hogan. Steamboat was huge at the time. When he became NWA champion a year later, he actually challenged Hogan to a match(obviously bullshit just to draw attention), but it made fans realize how this dream match would never get to occur, and Vince could have made it happen a year earlier.

^ Yeah but it didn't have a proper finish, and they didn't have a proper feud (which would have rocked).
