Saw
« on: October 23, 2009, 12:31:24 am »
Now I dont like horror films, and gore has me deeply concerned about peoples underlying mental state

So the fact the Saw series is my fav series of film means either:

a) they aint horror
b) they aint all that gory
c) i'm nuts

Probably all three

Started back at Uni now every year i meet up with the gang for the annual Saw offering

Incredible to think no.7 is in production - and one every year?!

I find in them a riverting story and fascinating characters - i want to see things played out. For me the violence is just window dressing and the films are more thrillers than torture-****

I think the series is more intelligent than critics are prepared to conceed - and each film gives us enough swerves for me to believe Vince Russo is involved somehow

If someones 7ft brother shows up i'll have my proof!

Any fans here?

Probably - like a politician - if i keep to my views people say i'm awkward, if i change them i'm inconsistent!

Just saw Saw 6 - it puts the series back on track

Thought Saw 5 was very....meh, Saw 2 again, but with all the same mistakes

Saw 6 is riverting - but really only due to the OMFG levels of gore, wasnt there once a story here?

Love the film series, can't wait to see the latest, every year I think about buying the DVD Boxset then think, nah I'll wait 'til they stop doing these and get the final Boxset, that could be awhile  :hihi:

Outside of the 1st, I've never watched any of them more than once and subsequently my memory is awful, I remember bits from all of them but for the most part all I know/remember is Jigsaw is dead, I should really re-watch them all in order in a marathon session before I see the latest one, incidently I miss Shaunsee Smith (I think thats the name) of Becker fame.

Shawnee Smith ;)

I think we all miss her - she does that evil sexy thing as well as anyone i've ever seen :smoking:

Odd they killed her off - you always give yourself a loophole so they can return 'oh they never found the body....'

Hoffman isnt the personality Amanda is - he cant carry the film (the man of one facial expression...) and maybe thats why Saw V was a bit flat

I have a very selective memory - i can remember every Saw film scene by scene  - but get lost driving to the same cinema i have gone to 10,000 times before :crying:

...probably an entire to refresh your memory, the flashbacks would get very confusing if you cant place them in the overall timeline

Wonder if they will ever do a dvd set with each scene in the correct order...

...and like u, i havent bought a box set because i'm waiting

...i did buy the directors cut of Saw 3 - has 10-20 (i forget) mins they cut from the theatrical release - suffice to say, that was to get around the NC-17 rating - its harrowing stuff! Saw 3 was rejected by the censors 8 times before getting an R rating, lol!

I'd like that but I think there might be a plot hole or two which would get exposed/highlighted with that.

Only a guess, watching I've never noticed anything major, but as standard I read movie reviews and the recent films haven't just been slated for gore but also for plot holes, I sometimes think with movie reviews, are these obvious and I miss them?  Or do they just watch movies way too closely.

The first film was a breath of fresh air. I am a horror fanatic, and the genre needed that film at the time. They went to the Jigsaw well too many times and ruined it for me. I watched III in the theater and after that, washed my hands of the franchise. I watched Saw IV online, and still haven't watched V and have no plans to watch VI. Quicker this franchise dies off, the better.

The franchise went from being good, original horror to being one of the main things wrong with the genre.
I have wined and dined with kings and queens, and I've slept in alleys and dined on pork and beans.
