Edge
« on: July 04, 2009, 03:12:59 pm »
Ivan B. sent along the following:

I am attending a WWE house show here in San Diego, CA. and I just witnessed Edge get injured during his match with Jeff Hardy.

He was running towards Jeff and appeared to have either twisted or even broken his ankle. His foot was in a very awkward position. The match was immediatley stopped.

EMTs came running to attend him and he was helped out of the ring. He even took the time to take the mic and say "sorry" to the fans.

Yeah, if he is out I hope he gets back by November because I'm going to a Smackdown/ECW house show then.  :P

Here's a more detailed report:

It appears Edge may have injured his leg during his match with Jeff Hardy at tonight’s house show. After four or five minutes of drawing audience participation, including Edge pretending to slip off the ropes the two performers finally engaged in a collar and elbow tie up. Shortly after Edge charged Hardy into a corner of ring where Edge went down. It’s unclear why he went down or what part of his leg was injured, but the match immediately stopped without any further interaction from the two wrestlers. Referee Charles Robinson threw up the “X” arm signal and the bell rang, awarding Jeff the victory due to Edge not being able to continue. There was a thought that this was a horribly booked work, but Edge even grabbed the mic and apologized to the crowd saying, “Sorry.” Apologizing, of course is not typical of a major heel. The match ended with almost no action what so ever and Edge needed assistance back to the locker room.

Hopefully its nothing serious, without jumping the gun, if he is out, who do you give the Tag Straps to?

Legacy or Hart Dynasty seem to be the best choices.

As we noted in our initial report, Edge did get on the microphone and apologize to the fans for having to cut the match short. The spot the injury occured wasn't even really a spot. Edge just planted his foot wrong and went down with his leg at a bad angle.

That is actually quite a serious injury and will likely require surgery and a long period of down time for Edge. According to one source, the plan is to try and get the Unified tag-team titles, which Edge currently holds with Chris Jericho, onto the team of Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase - Legacy.

Right now company officials are scanning footage of the Edge vs. Great Khali match taped on Wednesday night for next week's SmackDown! TV show trying to find a spot where they can claim on TV for storylines that Edge was injured. [partial credit: f4wonline.com]

Word is he's torn his Achilles tendon, which would mean really bad news. If true he'll definatly be out till atleast early 2010 but if he's torn it really bad theres a chance it could mean he'd have to retire which would be really terrible.

Plus he & Jericho were gaining some steam and looked so promising.  :(

Surely it can't be that serious...can it? God I hope not.  :'(

Guess I can forget about seeing Edge in November then....well the main thing is that he makes a full recovery.  :-\

Thing is he's been on the banged up needing time off least for a bit so why have him wrestle 3 times on television this week?  Admittedly 2 were tag matches so it reduces the strain somewhat but combine this with the house shows (like the one in which he got injured), it seems so many injuries come when guys schedules are cranked up too much.

Why does this bear a errie relevance to Michael Jackson's last concert pictures?  :-\

He looks pretty banged up. Hopefully it's not as bad as what was initially thought.

Yeah I was reading about the seriousness of the injury and apparently it generally takes 12-16 months to recover from.

The injury Edge suffered, which is a torn Achilles tendon, generally requires surgery with about eight months - possibly longer - for recuperation. If that is how things play out for Edge, he'll be on the sidelines until potentially March of 2010. The same injury has ended the careers of a lot of pro athletes apparently, although it probably won't be career-threatening for Edge as once recovered you lose some speed, which isn't as big a deal to a top wrestler as it would be a football player, etc. [credit: f4wonline.com]

Seems like the exact time out of the ring is unknown but with something this serious he really needs to be 100% before he returns rather than rushing back, its a damn shame for anyone, but losing Edge is one of the biggest blows as he is one of the best heels in the business.
