Quote:
- There is said to be legit heat between Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker. Striker reportedly has a reputation for being an elitist, which is rubbing people the wrong way, as Michael Cole isn't a fan of Striker's either. There have been times that Striker wanted to prepare for a show with his broadcast partners but he irritates them so much that they go out of their way to avoid him until showtime.

What does everyone think of Striker? Personally he makes me want to turn the channel - i just cant stand him. Its not that i dont realise that they need to move on from JR/King as their focus but this guy is awful. He was an awful wrestler, ive no idea what he did to justify the move to commentary. He never talks about the match, every second sentance starts with "Imagine what.....", he has no credablity as a past performer to make you respect his calls and he says so much stuff which makes no sense at all. McMahon is apparently high on the guy so im worried we might be stuck with him buy in my opinion he's the worst wrestling commentator in any promotion right now. Although not a Colour guy I think that Josh Matthews is far better. He feels far more natural, and actually calls the match rather than forcing the hard sell down our throat.

Agree 1000 percent.. he drives me nuts

IMO a big reason WWE isn't as entertaining is cause the announcing is so stale.

I remember going to watch Raw during the Attitude era and realizing how crucial the commentating truly is to the product

Lawler is stale, Cole is a consistent **** up, and Striker makes WWE sound like a bush league small time show.

When he first started doing what he's doing now I thought he was a breath of fresh air.  However, as time has gone on, he has really started to great on me.  I get the impression he's trying to be a hell announcer, hell, he doesn't even do that well.

The guy is a TIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love him, he has his moments of being annoying but his passion for the business far out weighs that of "Don't Know Cole" and "Don't Care Lawler".  He is a true wrestling geek and makes nods to past storylines and characters that only long term and die hard fans will get, anyone who gets in Alex Wright, Duke Droese and Chinese Democracy references is all right in my book.

I've brought him up a couple of times before. He's OK, but can be fairly annoying. It often seems like he's showing off with some of the stuff he says. I don't know if that's supposed to be part of his gimmick or what....

I remember in the run-up to Wrestlemania, and he was talking about how he'd competed at the event before. When?!

He wrestled on Wrestlemania 23 with The Pope in the New Breed vs ECW Originals match. He really was **** poor as a wrestler.

Wow, I forgot about that match. And even if I'd remembered it, I doubt I could have told you he was in it.

I thought he might have been in some pre-show Battle Royal or something. :lol2:

I only knew it so well cause ive just watched the DVD of that Mania! But it leads me onto another thing that annoys me about Striker. When the King, who, granted, has has better days (should turn him heel again) makes an observation or gives some analysis, Striker often comes in and undermines the King. Like on RAW when the King points out that Sheamus is wasting a chance putting Orton in an arm lock after taking him down with a power move. King says its not a submission and Striker comes out with "of course it is, it puts prssure on the rear vertibre etc. etc. etc.". Who ever taps to an arm lock? Nobody. Its a wear down move not a submission move. King has been wrestling for 40 years and has been a commentator at WWE for over 15. Striker acting like he knows more about wrestling than Lawler after wrestling for 9 and being in the WWE for 5, only 3 of which as a wrestler, just doesnt wash with me.

After watching this week's SD, I think what bothers me most about his commentary is that it sounds like he's trying to come up with as many soundbites as possible. Jerry Lawler back in his heyday was a great heel colour commentator, nothing he said sounded like he'd written it down beforehand and was planning on saying it. Asking stuff like "what fuels the fire inside Kane?" or whatever it was he said after Kane Chokeslammed some people just doesn't sound natural.

Plus, him challenging the NXT rookies to try something else was just laughable. :P He doesn't really do 'threatening'....

I like King and Stryker. I don't like Cole, Matthews or especially Grisham. I really miss Jim Ross.

I liked him when he first came on although I realize now that's only because Lawler had gone downhill so bad.  He does sound elitist with his use of terminology and frankly he just talks too much for my liking.  I actually miss heel Lawler that guy was funny and a perv.  Now he is stuck in a tweener role as a commentator, he isn't really a full fledged heel or face.  He just kinda takes both sides now.

If they insist on not changing announcers anytime soon, why not just turn Michael Cole into a full heel PBP guy?  He's way more interesting doing that schtick than anything else.

I like him on Smackdown, but not PPV.  He has some good, funny banter with Grisham, I like the pairing.  On PPV, Cole and Lawler clearly don't like him and the commentary just sound awkward and they spend more time trying to make each other look stupid than paying attention to the match.
