Potential World Champions... Has there ever been so many?
« on: May 03, 2010, 10:46:05 am »
In recent years WWE has pushed younger and new guys to their first world title. Sheamus, Punk and most recently Swagger have benefitted from that approach.

My question is simple:

Who will get a chance at being world champion before the end of next years Wrestlemania?

Contenders:

John Morrison
Miz
Drew McIntyre
Christian
Ted Dibiase
Kofi Kingston
R-Truth
Matt Hardy
Cody Rhodes

I'd like to think that at least one on that list will be given a chance. It will most likely be on the SD brand which makes Kofi, McIntrye and Christian the favourites.

Thoughts?
This is how it works, You're young until you're not
You love until you don't, You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry, You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe, Until their dying breath

I'm predicting a Drew McIntyre/Big Show World Title feud in the future.

Christian obviously deserves it right now.

Morrison would be awesome after a long 6 month chase...if it was a long process I think it could be pulled off.

McIntyre will win the World Title within the next 2 years and that is 100% certain.

Morrison won't win the belt anytime soon. Maybe in a few years when the Attitude Era guys are leaving WWE.

Cody Rhodes is about 5 years away from realistically winning the World or WWE title.

Christian will win the title by the end of the year or at least by Wrestlemania 27.

Kofi...no...Sorry

R-Truth... :gtfo:

Miz: Before I thought he would, but now I don't see it happening until at least mid way through 2011 if he does ever win it.

Ted Dibiase will win the title, but that won't happen for about 3 years or so. He still needs to gain some credibility as a Mid-Carder.

Matt Hardy: No, should be but wont ever be.

Every few years there is always a surprise guy that makes a quicker turnaround than people expect, one who seemingly emerges from out of nowhere to the top, Batista did it, 6 months before he was World Champion most would have said he'd never win it, Jack Swagger 6 months ago people thought he was more likely to get endeavoured rather than win the Championship, after this past weeks Smackdown I think Cody Rhodes could be that guy.

Morrison and McIntyre I can definitely see as future champions, and probably within the next 2 years. They both have 'world champion-like' characters if that makes any sense. Morrison is the flashy, charismatic, Shawn Michaels-esque champ, and McIntyre would make a good, ruthless Triple H-like world champion.

As for the others, I can see Christian winning it within the next year, but I can't see him holding it for a very long time. 2 or 3 months maybe. Kingston I could see if they put him in a few more feuds with main event level guys like the one with Orton last year.

Miz, DiBiase and Rhodes perhaps, but in at least 2 or 3 years.

Truth and Hardy.... I don't see it. Then again, who knows with the WWE?....

As much as Triple H likes him, and I like him, doesn't McIntyre need to shake off the "Conway Pop" before he gets that kind of push, I mean seriously, his reactions aren't the best.  Although anything is possible, how massive was the Jack Swagger heat this past week, this title run may have made him the most hated guy in the company.

quick reations

John Morrison--later on in a few years
Miz--wait and see; want to know where he goes after showmiz breakup
Drew McIntyre--probably within the next year
Christian--definitely within the next few months
Ted Dibiase--I think they wait on him to develop a persona first
Kofi Kingston--no
R-Truth--no
Matt Hardy--no
Cody Rhodes--maybe; he has the lineage and could be an interesting heel

The 3 guys I voted no were because I think they are top level midcarders at the  most.  Hardy seems like a guy who will be perpetually stuck at the IC/US title level.  Don't see Rtruth/Kingston advancing past that level either.

Your in a more exclusive club if u haven't won...

This is a joke, everyone seems to get the title and multiple times

if the Intercontinental title wasn't such a joke u could use that instead - only the absolute best should even get a title shot, let alone a reign. None of these guys deserves the belt - use them fir an awesome and competitve mid card

Hey if they are willing to give it Khali... then anything is possible.

I think Kofi will be a World Champ at some point. Kids love him and that seems to be a pre-requsite in PG WWE.

Guys that crap are the exception because they come under the "Freakshow - Loophole" tag, and also the "Big Man" tag.  Vince loves both  :D

Don't count out Matt Hardy just yet. While it is EXTREMELY unlikely, Vince could give him the belt to get Jeff Hardy to come back when his TNA deal is up next year. Or Matt could be TNA world Champ is he goes there someday.

That is true. Guys get these huge turnarounds out of the blue at times.

However I just do not see Cody Rhodes winning the title before he hits the age of 26 or 27 at least. You do not see many young wrestlers win the title at a young age. Orton and Lesnar are the prime examples of young wrestlers winning major wwe gold at early ages.

Thing is, I just think he can, because compare him to the current Champion.  Both guys can get great heat, both have a lisp, both are good wrestlers, but I'd say Rhodes is the better wrestler, better talker and I think given the chance he could get at least as much heat, I'd say more but its hard to get more heat than Swagger does at the moment.
