TNA Impact Taping Reports 6/23/09

*NYC Street Fight: Brother Ray vs Brutus Magnus
During the match, Rob Terry, Doug Williams, Kiyoshi & Bashir all ran down and attacked Ray. Devon came down with a chair, gave Terry a wicked chair shot & put Kiyoshi through a table with a 3D. Postmatch, Brother Ray offered pieces of the broken table to the fans of the iMPACT Zone. They brought a young boy into the ring to give him a piece.

New TNA Champion, Kurt Angle comes to the ring followed by Scott Steiner, Booker T & Sharmell and Kevin Nash & Jenna Morasca. Angle introduces himself as the new champion and bring out the newest member of the Main Event Mafia, Samoa Joe. He comes out and hugs each member of the Mafia. Angle said it was all part of the master plan. It was all because of Jenna and her investment her millions which lead to Joe joining. He apologizes to Sting for not telling him and what he didn't know didn't hurt him. Mick Foley's music immediately hits and he comes out to the ring with Rocco & Sally Boy who remain at the top of the stage and head back down the tunnel as Mick enters the ring. He says Angle doesn't owe him an explanation..but he owes Sting one and Joe owes AJ one, but what Angle does owe him is a rematch at Victory Road. Angle wants Foley to cry, says he is a disgrace and has no power. Angle says he can choose his opponent at Victory Road according to his contract. Foley says at Victory Road, this crybaby is gonna kick his ass. Angle says, if you want something from the MEM, you have to give something back..how about we go back to Foley's office and talk about things.

*Kevin Nash vs Abyss
During the match, Dr. Stevie ran down and used a taser on Abyss & allowed Nash to get the ring. Stevie remained on the ramp & played with the taser as Lauren ran down to check on Abyss.

New TNA Tag Team champions Beer Money come out. They say not only are they the greatest tag team in TNA but in the World. They offer Team 3D their rematch anytime, but Scott Steiner & Booker T come out. Booker asks them if they have ever heard of the Steiner Brothers or Harlem Heat and that Angle is running things, so he and Scotty are getting a tag title shot and they will have singles matches against him & Steiner. Team 3D come out and from the ramp, they said they're a little frustrated and declare they are getting a rematch at Victory Road. They're going to Mick and giving him an offer he can't refuse. Hilarious segment.

*Knockouts 10,000 Tacks match: Taylor Wilde defeated Daffney

*Scott Steiner defeated Robert Roode.

JB is backstage with Kurt Angle, we learn that Sting is on his way and he wants answers.

AJ Styles comes to the ring to discuss what happened and calls Samoa Joe out to the ring. AJ asks if it was the money and says they had a plan. He said he turned his back on him, the company & the fans and screwed himself when he gave Angle the TNA Title. He wants to know who got in his head, who made him think it was all worth it. Joe says he can ask himself at Victory Road. Matt Morgan comes down and helps Joe beat down on Styles until Daniels makes the save. Nash, Booker & Steiner come down and beat down on Daniels & Styles...but then Sting walks down and the mafia leave the ring. Sting looks down at Styles & Daniels who are helped out by Security before taking the mic. MEM slowly start making their way back into the ring and Angle restrains Joe from Sting. Sting says he expected this from Angle & Joe but not from the other three. He said it was because of punks like Joe they started the Mafia. He tells Kurt he is pathetic. Morgan says Kurt had everything to do with this. Sting confronts the remaining members. He tells Nash he expected more from him, Nash basically says he went to bat for Sting in every instance. Nash says Sting's plan isn't working, but Angle's is...this honor, dignity and respect is bullsh**, and its all about money. You can make friends and you can make money but you can't do both in this business. Sting says this isn't about Oz, Big D or Big Sexy but the heart of Kevin Nash..he offers him the bat to take him out to get his place in the mafia, Sting turns his back and pulls out second bat and attacks Nash before he can attack him, fends off the majority of the Mafia until Joe picked up the second bat and attacks Sting with it. The MEM then all beat down on Sting helplessly. Nash grabs Sting, holding him and shooing away the Mafia and delivers a Jackknife powerbomb on him, while the MEM stand tall over their now former leader.

*James Storm defeated Booker T w/Sharmell via DQ when Booker smashed Storm over the head with his own beer bottle.

*The Amazing Red defeated Cody Deaner with ODB

*Tara & Amazing Kong w/Raisha Saeed defeated The Beautiful People with Madison Rayne when Kong pinned Sky following an Implant Buster. Postmatch, Tara took the black box she had at ringside with her over to Sky's fallen body and placed a live tarantula on her stomach.

*TNA World Title Match contested under tag team rules - Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Jarrett & AJ Styles when Angle made Jarrett pass out from his leglock submission. Postmatch, Scott Steiner, Booker T and Kevin Nash come down to celebrate with Joe and Angle. Styles grabs his Legends Title and goes to chase off MEM. He eventually hits Samoa Joe but the remaining Mafia members come back into the ring and beat down Styles gangland style while Jarrett was still unconscious. The lights in the iMPACT Zone go out and Sting's music hits, and as they return on, Angle is choking Styles with the TNA World Title while Sting is behind him with his signature baseball bat. Sting takes out the members of the Mafia and grabs the TNA World Title. The lights go back out and not only has Sting disappeared but so has Angle's TNA World Title.

TNA Impact Taping Results 6/24/09

*Jay Lethal defeated Johnny Gordado during Lethal's entrance, he handed his headband & robe to SoCal Val, but threw it in her face, she threw them down, turned her back and walked away..leaving them at ringside.

*The Main Event Mafia comes out to the ring. Kurt says he knows Sting is home licking his wounds, but it wasn't personal it was all business. He calls out Mick Foley who comes to the ring with his security team. Kurt immediately cuts off Foley who tries to speak and says he's crossed the line. He says he went over his head and lied to the Godfather. Rocco & Sally Boy stand in front of Foley, he says do your best. Steiner & Joe attack them & take them out. Foley says to just let him wrestle at Victory Road. Lets make a deal...Kurt says, door #1 he kicks his ass, door 2 its Booker 2. Nash is 3 and behind the curtain he unleashes Samoa Joe. He says he picks #1 and immediately hits Angle..the Mafia beat him down until Jeff Jarrett makes his way to the ring with his guitar. The Mafia runs off and heads away from ringside, Foley gets to his feet and Jarrett nails him with his guitar. The Mafia begin smiling as Jeff goes up the ramp through them, Angle slaps his chest..and Jarrett looks back at him with disgust before heading back down the babyface tunnel. The Mafia look confused and try to look for Jarrett.

*TNA Tag Team Champions, Beer Money come out to join West & Tenay for the following match. Scott Steiner & Booker T def Team 3D. Halfway through the match, Kiyoshi & Bashir come out & attack Beer Money at the commentary table. It looked like 3D was about to get the win. Rob Terry & Doug Williams attacked Devon at ringside, Brother Ray was left alone in the ring.. Brutus Magnus attacked him with the briefcase allowing Booker T to get the pin. Post match, Steiner attacked a fan at ringside and pulled him over the guardrail.

*Eric Young defeated Rhino w/Jesse Neal using his feet on the ropes.

*Sting comes out to the ring with the TNA title. He says he knows Kurt is watching and he has his belt..you want it, come get it. But in the meantime, he wants to talk to Joe, who comes out to the top of the ramp and makes his way to the ring. Sting tells him that he is the reason why wrestling and this company are as bad as they are right now. He's not willing to work for anything and expect things handed to him. He said he can fight this fight alone. Joe said, fortunately for Sting, he's been told to keep his temper. Sting asks who is in his ear, who's telling him, who is pulling his strings. Joe says he's going to say it one last time and you'll find out at Victory Road. Sting says he's going to find him tonight..pull him from the shadows bring him to the ring..tear him apart and feed him to the fans.

*Ladder Match for the X-Division Title Shot Briefcase. Doug Williams vs. the returning Homicide of LAX Homicide wins back his X-Division case, right as he was grabbing the case, Williams attempted to get back into the ring but Team 3D prevented that. Terry, Magnus, Kiyoshi & Bashir joined Williams and they continously beat down Team 3D until Foley's new security team made their way out and helped 3D to the back.

*Mick Foley comes out to the ring he says life can be funny sometimes and some times you need to make difficult decisions. He says that TNA shouldn't have two decision makers and suggests that tonight one should step down from decision making capacity. Jeff Jarrett comes out to the ring and says he needs to ask Mick a question..if he thinks before anything he says. He says they are cut from the same mold, its the nature of the beast. He says in Foley's quest to regain his TNA title, he put TNA in serious danger and no matter what happens after Victory Road he will always be a true legend in this business. He tells Mick he needs to start thinking why he came to TNA, the young athletes and their families and the future of TNA, but they have to do it together. Foley appreciates what Jarrett is saying...and that in hindsight, they are even steven...but he does say he needs to prove something to himself and that winning the TNA title was no fluke and that's to take it back from Kurt Angle and that's he's going to do it for the right reasons and for all the fans and wrestlers of TNA. He says Angle needs a warm-up match and tonight Angle should take on Jeff Jarrett..non title of course. Jeff likes the idea, but is "gonna tweak it" a bit..and make it a 3 way dance...himself vs Angle vs Mick Foley. Foley says he sees his tweak and raises one, so no one says they are in cahoots, they're gonna let Kurt Angle choose his own special referee. Jarrett says that it cannot be a member of the MEM or Matt Morgan.

*"The Outlaw" Jethro Holiday defeated Jesse Neal w/Rhino

*Booker T & Scott Steiner come out to join West & Tenay on commentary. Non Title Match.

*Beer Money defeated MotorCity Machineguns when Roode pinned Shelley following a DWI. Beer Money jawjacked with Steiner & Booker from the ring and taunted them with the TNA Tag Team Titles

*Tara defeated Velvet Sky w/Angelina Love & Madison Rayne with the Widow's Peak. Postmatch, Tara went to place the taranchula on Sky, Angelina screamed at ringside not to do it, Tara said only if she puts the Knockouts title on the line, she gracefully accepted and put the spider back in his case. Angelina entered the ring for her match. Tara vs Angelina Love for the TNA Knockouts Title. Match started with a few quick pin attemps for Tara, then Love escaped the ring, but Tara pulled her back by her hair. Madison Rayne tried to stop it and got thrown out by Rudy Charles. The match continued till finally Tara hit the Widow's Peak and got the win to become the NEW TNA Knockouts Champion.

*Matt Morgan & Kevin Nash vs. AJ Styles & Daniels. Daniels & Styles win when Styles pins Morgan following a BME/Frog Splash combo. Postmatch, Nash & Morgan attack Daniels & Styles from behind, Morgan gets a chair and traps Daniels's leg in it and stomps on it in an attempt to break it. Styles enters the ring to help his friend with a chair of his own, Morgan & Nash head up the ramp while security and trainers come out to assist Daniels.

*Non Title Match - Eric Young is the special guest referee. TNA World Champion Kurt Angle vs Jeff Jarrett vs. Mick Foley Angle wins via a submission. He had Foley in the ankle lock and Eric Young called for the bell. Postmatch, Jarrett went after Young and they battled to the back. Angle attacked Foley and Samoa Joe with the TNA title and a bat and Steiner, Nash & Booker all came down with barbed wires and barbed wire bats and proceeded to tie up Foley in it. Sally Boy & Rocco came down in an attempt to help Foley, but were quickly taken care of. Foley's new security team led by Bugsy McGraw came down armed with nightsticks and surrounded the ring as Angle celebrated with his TNA World Title and the Main Event Mafia.

In a WWE Game "context" Tara's stock shot through the roof....

I like that they are pushing Harlem Steiners as a team, it works.  I wonder if they'd bring in Stevie Ray and Rick Steiner in some role, Russo would love to use them in a swerve angle...

Eric Young def Johnny Gardano

ODB w/Cody Deener defeated Madison Rayne

"The Outlaw" Jethro Holiday vs. Jay Lethal
Lethal's music plays but doesn't come out. Abyss comes out to no music and attacks
Holiday. He then takes the mic and tells Dr Stevie to come out, he wants the whole world
what he has to say. He says he doesn't need Dr. Stevie anymore. No more therapy sessions,
so more checking in and no more shock treatments, except for you..he says he's gonna snap
him in two. On the screen, Stevie appears on nightvision camera who had Lauren in tears.
He says he owns Abyss, mind body & soul. He says Abyss will come to his office for

Mick Foley comes out to kick off iMPACT! He says to be honest, he feels a bit naked
without the TNA World Title on his shoulder, so this Sunday at Victory Road he's gonna do
his beat to get that title back on his shoulder. He asks Kurt Angle to come out to face
him man to man, Angle comes out to the ring. Foley appreciates what he asked & coming
out..he says he wants what Angle has, and not his hair. He wears his heart on his sleeve
& loves being the TNA World Champion. He brings up how last week, they tied him up in
barbed wire and they were playing with his mind. He says he doesn't have much, but don't
take it away from him, how in 1991 he submitted to Terry Funk to a stopover toehold and
he swore he would never do that again. He's a lot like the Little Engine Who Could, he
thinks he can...and if Kurt is thinking he is tapping, that aint happening. He admits
Kurt is a man and came out alone without the MEM and that if he can extend that courtesy
3 nights from now and do it one on one at Victory Road. Kurt says he's trying to help not
only themselves but him and Jarrett. Sting's music hits and he begins to pace at the top
of the stage. He asks if he just heard Kurt right, that he's doing this for TNA? What a
bunch of bull..that's the same line he was fed when he joined the MEM. Sting says he has
his own agenda for the PPV, he's taking Joe & his handler up one side of the iMPACT Zone
and down the other, but Sunday is Sunday and tonight is now and he asks Mick for one last
match against Kurt Angle. Kurt says that Foley says yes, but he's gonna tweak it a
bit..and make it a Six Sides of Steel tonight!

Backstage, Samoa Joe is destroying Amazing Red all over the place and brings him out to
the iMPACT Zone. The match begins, Joe is stomping Red into the corner, shoves off Rudy
Charles and hits a Muscle Buster and continues to pummel him, Foley's security team comes
out to break things up.

Homicide comes down and hits both Guns with his briefcase, he picks up the X Title in
h8is hands and the fans chant "cash it in". He hands the referee the briefcase and
immediately covers Suicide but only gets 2. He hits a Gringo Killer and gets the win, NEW
X Division Champion, Homicide.

The Beautiful People come out, Angelina Love is dressed in a Bee Keepers outfit, Velvet
has spider killer spray. Love says she has filed a complant with PETER whoever he is,
against a certain new Knockouts champion who tried to endanger her with a big spider. She
says the Beautiful People do not recognize Tara winning last week, the match was never
official, she says she is still the Knockouts champion. But she says she will make it
official at Victory Road. Tara comes out to the ramp, she said this title makes it
official, but she'll confirm it on Sunday. She says not to worry about Poison, he likes
dark warm places, she said she snuck into her locker room earlier and found a nice place
for him to sleep, her bee keepers outfit. Love starts freaking out, ripping part of the
outfit off, Tara comes down and delivers a Widow's peak to her and stands over he with
the Knockouts title.

Sarita (Sarah Stock) defeated "The Future Legend" Melissa Flash (Cheerleader Melissa) Post
Match, Flash executed a powerbomb like maneuver to Sarita and left her laying.

6man Elimination Tag Match
Kevin Nash w/Jenna Morasca, Scott Steiner & Booker T w/Sharmell vs. Beer Money & AJ Styles
Order of elimination:
Styles by Nash
Storm by Steiner
Nash by Roode
Nash tripped up Roode after being eliminated, Storm came back out with a chair, but Matt
Morgan come down and jumped Storm from behind.
Roode by Booker T
Winner: Booker T, Scott Steiner & Kevin Nash
Postmatch, Jenna & Sharmell argued which led to a catfight between the two.

Lethal Consequences defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir & Kiyoshi when Lethal pinned Kiyoshi

Awesome Kong defeated SoJo Bolt

Non Title Grudge Match, Six Sides of Steel
Jeff Jarrett comes out to join Mike & Don on commentary for this match, he has several
words with Don West before sitting down.

Kurt Angle vs. Sting
As Sting put Angle in the Scorpion, Samoa Joe came out, attacked Jarrett at the
commentators table, took out Rudy Charles & stole the cage key, he went inside and Sting
jumped him...the lights went out and a 13 FTW video appeared on the screen as Joe put
Sting in the Tazmission. Jarrett and Mick Foley both tried to enter the cage, but Angle
swatted them away with a nightstick, Nash, Steiner & Booker all came out and beat more on
Jarrett & Foley and Joe still had on the submission hold on Sting. Joe and Angle leave
Sting laying in the middle of the ring barely conscious..

Just got finishing watching Impact!

I liked how they started with a match, I'm a strong believer in all shows should start with a match or a brawl the in-ring segment right at the start is over done in both TNA and WWE.  It was a good opening match to, Magnus' chest looked **** and he sold it really well, nice table spot to finish as well, and if that Rob Terry can wrestle, then wow, there is a star there, he just has that star image.

The closing segment was very strong to, mainly because there was no Jarrett or Foley.  The Main Event Mafia just got better and there path of destruction continues, its fun but are TNA's stars going to get retribution?  Someone like Lashley needs to return to bolster the babyface ranks, at least they have Sting now.

Kip James on screen for 3 seconds....Yeah!  TV Time!

It has seemed odd to me for a while how TNA makes it small roster...seem smaller.  They re-use guys throughout the show at an alarming rate.  The Mafia had 2 in-ring segments, 3 matches featured Mafia guys, Beer Money had their own in-ring segment, 2 singles matches, Team 3D were at the start, showed up in the Beer Money segment and backstage later and it feels like Mick Foley is nearly ALWAYS there.

Where was the X-Division?

As for Victory Road, The Tag Picture looks nice, but Sharmell vs. Jenna?  Meh hopefully it means the end of at least one of them.  Oh and Nash vs. AJ Styles?  I like Nash as a character, he can talk no doubt but why have him wrestle?  I think Angle and Foley will pull something good off, mainly because of Angle.

When I saw the beatdown at the end of the show before the Mafia run-in I thought what a good monster team for the Mafia Joe and Morgan can make (Incidently I was surprised Joe hadn't got more...Mafia styled).  A tag bout would be a good idea Joe and Morgan vs. Sting and Daniels.

Show is pretty solid, but they need to get the x- division running as a main point or at lest more then it is right now.

Loved TNA this week. every match was very solid. Roode adn Steiner my favorite of course.

MEM look strong and united again which is a breath of fresh air especially after how lazy the writing for them had become... .Everyone knows Angle is the leader which is why Sting having the title was always dumb.

Sting can still work the stick like nobodies business. I was hanging on every word he and Kevin were saying and I found myself believing it.
that is what is missing a lot in wrestling these days. Just the believability. In WWE u have all these writers scripting what the wrestler should say and most wrestlers are bad actors so it comes off that way sometimes.

i love the from the heart shoot type stuff. like Hammy I think it was said, have them hit major points but the rest is for them to wing it on the fly.

Yes, yes and yes to all that

MEM was failing fast - but Joe and Morgan are such a shot in the arm

I'd have liked a little bit longer to really develop Sting as the leader - but its all good

Kevin and Sting was just superb - that was from the heart, TNA gives their stars the chance to express themselves
..and yes Impact was better than Slammiversary

Another good Impact last night.

Velvet Sky is the hottest chick in the world.... Seriously, I'd choose her over any wrestling diva.

I have a bad feeling Beer Money's title reign will be short as it seems the MEM are getting all the gold.

we will see

i hope not.

I think moving the belts to Booker T and Scott Steiner straight away would be a mistake.  They have some good, youngsters vs. veterans feuds, on the whole the youngsters need the wins to get the rub and to be elevated.

Beer Money over Steiner/Booker
British Invasion over Team 3D
Styles over Nash
Joe over Sting
Angle should go over Foley and eventually put over Styles
Morgan needs to just go on a massive streak of destruction, have him take out Jarrett for good.

Its good they have fresh, young faces in MEM because they are crushing most like the nWo did.

TNA need to get their X Division back on track though.

Their Knockouts are way better than the WWE divas in my opinion.

Don west has really grown into a great commentator, he is hilarious, it's easy to forget how much a heel commentator adds, it's also great to hear a commentator allowed to criticise, wwe has puppets, Todd chrisham is understandably terrified that he may get fired with one wrong word...
