WWE Superstars Cancelled
« on: March 18, 2011, 02:36:38 pm »
Chad Ruffner sent an e-mail to WGN America concerning replays of WWE Superstars. The e-mail response noted the following:

?Our final airing of ?WWE Superstars? is Thursday, April 7.?

According to ProWrestling.net, WGN America confirmed that WWE Superstars has been canceled. Additional information was not provided.

WWE Superstars debuted on April 16, 2009.

I'm guessing they may just move it online since like NXT they had contracts signed with international broadcasters like here in the UK.  I mean if they do remove it, Tyler Reks, JTG, Curt Hawkins, Trent Barretta, The Usos, DZP, and a few other jobbers will soon be fired (and then 90 days later in the Impact Zone...)

Regarding WGN America?s cancellation of WWE Superstars, the Chicago-based superstation didn?t feel they were getting what they paid for, which was a program near the level of the Monday Night Raw. WGN agreed to carry the show in late 2008 with the hope it would bring ratings to their national feed, which does not have substantial clearance across cable systems in the United States.

While WWE Superstars initially featured top tier talent such as John Cena, Edge and John Morrison, it was clear from the beginning that it was a show of little consequence. For instance, the program sparingly featured storylines. Within a matter of time, it became the modern day equivalent of Sunday Night Heat, a television showcase for the organization?s preliminary talent; Zack Ryder, Tyler Reks, Primo and the brothers Uso were regularly featured in starring roles. Meanwhile, the show?s lackluster ratings were indicative of how both fans and officials alike saw it as.

Due to last month?s poor financial quarters, company officials have discussed cutting ties with a number of bottom level wrestlers following Wrestlemania XXVII as a cost-cutting measure.

Current plans for WWE Superstars now that it?s finished on WGN America is to air the show internationally and on WWE?s YouTube channel.

There was really no point to the show. They should of moved the US or IC belt there, or had a TV Champ, wit no storylines or point itwas really whatever wrestler was not Jobbing on RAW or SD got to have a match thrown together last minute. Look at RAW you had 5 guys wanting a title shot, divas never ending battles, The Corre contining fued. It ha storyline that dont end. Each week they would continue their story. Superstars was originally the place for RAW, SD, ad ECW wrestlers to fight. Well without ECW and wih SD and RAW wrestlers fueding on their shows the one thing it had as being the special place for different brands to fight was gone. And now the show is gone.
