CM Punk Shoots!
« on: June 28, 2011, 05:20:42 pm »
Thoughts and views on that superb promo.....

JBL commented on CM Punk's RAW promo: "CM Punk's promo-shoot or work? Who cares? When you are so good that you can put that doubt in viewers minds you have done your job very well"

Former WWE star MVP also commented on Punk: "My verdict after watching the CM Punk promo, he just had his Austin 3: 16 moment. Don't **** this one up WWE"

New Japan has no effect on WWE whatsoever, ROH on the otherhand is pretty much the best developmental wrestling organisation in North Amercica whatever way people look at it.

They either cater to an alternative audience or get back handed funding from Vince if you believe the conspiracy narks.

TNA on the otherhand caters to some of the same audience, but CM Punk knows that TNA is awful  :P.

I like how he took a shot at the people cheering him too. ;D Kind of like "Don't suck up to me, IWCers!"

The Rock responds...

"CM Punk: it's simple business - The Rock is the main event at Wrestlemania cause it draws more money in one night, then u will in lifetime."

I haven't watched wrestling (Wrestlemania and the Rumble aside) for a good year or two, and I only saw the Punk promo because of this thread (yes!, I still drop by from time to time, thanks for asking).

Now, if there is ever any single thing that would entice me to start watching again (and I include the return of the Rock in that!), then that was it.

I haven't been able to muster much interest, if any, for in-ring promos since the early 00's, when week in week out each (both!!) shows opened with a twenty minute HHH promo (never mind the retrospective praise that he gets now because we realise in his absence just how good he is compared to most; that largely speaks volumes about how bad most are at cutting promos!, those used to bore us all to tears, come now, we all know this to be true!). I know that tradition continued, but it was around that time that I started falling asleep. Coupled with the near carbon copy main events on Raw and Smackdown at the time, it was... Wait, how did this happen.

Anyway, my point is that it was so refreshing to see a promo cut where the person giving it didn't use the *pause for dramatic effect* ad nauseam. I mean, my God, not to go back to HHH again, but holy...

As for what the Rock has to say on the matter, well, that's as may be, but he achieves nothing but proving Punk's point for him; the industry is bullshit because when a company has a near enough monopoly then money is all that talks. And you can read that for music, film, tv, whatever you want. This is why that anybody who came into their industry for the sheer love of the craft (Punk, the auteurs of cinema, folk bands and the like) hate it. Because the biggest sellers are never, never!, the most talented, or the ones to achieve the most in their field; the ones that are are the weak-watered-down-bullshit that has mass appeal to, let's face it, casual viewers and those that generally don't have a clue. It's even worse in the music and publishing world!, some of the greatest writers and artists have died in abject poverty while J K counts her millions. Punk has been successful, you can't deny that, but nowhere near in relation to his talent and how much he has put into his career.

And that just near enough breaks your heart.

Welcome back Jim! :)

One question that I still wonder is....

Was it a great shoot with Punk saying what he really thinks??

Or was it WWE taking advantage of the dirtsheets, the internet beliefs and exploiting what people think Punk feels about WWE and after all this he isn't even really leaving?

Or maybe its a mixture of both.  Punk is staying but he believes much of what he said.

We all remember when he first started and the stories of Triple H and HBK saying he couldn't work.

But look at his career.  2 time MITB winner, former World Champion, nobody expected this.   Going off what people expected...

.....he has overachieved by a crazy amount.  Most didn't even think he'd make it out of development.

Welcome back Jim!! Excellent post!

Def was a mix cause if not, TNA would've been mentioned.

Great Work by Punk and McMahon over the past couple of weeks.

I agree with Jim 100%.

When people like Austin, Rock, Punk etc are given license to be an exaggeration of themselves wrestling seems fresh and interesting, watching the same thing every week just loses viewers.

The best thing WWE has done since HBK/Jericho IMO. The Rock/Cena confrontations were great too, but i think this is better IMO

I hang on everything CM says... he showed last night how terrible Cena is on the mic... when Cena came out it lost some steam with Cena's corny ****.

CM is my new fave wrestler. hope somehow he sticks around.

I smell a Montreal Screwjob 3.0 coming up though... with the DVD they are making etc.. that will lead to a CM/Vince Feud to culminate at Summerslam

TBH I haven't found Cena particularly corny during this feud. He seems to be taking it pretty seriously I've thought....

You forget the bit when he came down and decide to mock Punk and Vince by doing his baby wah-wah-wah impressions to attempt to insult them, its just cringy worthy.

On the subject of the confrontation, relating to one of the highlights (obviously from Punk)

Good Humor issued the following response to a fan today regarding WWE Ice Cream bars:

"Thank you for writing us regarding Popsicle WWE Ice Cream Bar.

While we at Good Humor Ice Cream enjoy a good figure four leg lock and are sure glad you enjoyed the product, we don't have plans to make a Superstar Ice Cream Bar at this time."

CM Punk responded with the following on his Twitter:

"Is good humor stupid?"

I guess there was that but that was only, like, ten seconds. For the rest of it, he seemed fairly serious.

I'm betting if Cena had come out doing an exaggerated Vince strut like Punk did, he would've caught **** for that too... ;)
