Matches you like but other people don't remember
« on: July 29, 2009, 02:56:17 pm »
I know we have a "Top 10 Matches" thread, but a lot of the matches we posted are fairly well-known (WM main events, Foley/Taker HIAC etc.). What matches do you enjoy but are largely forgotten?? Maybe a good main event on an otherwise below-par PPV, or a match that was overshadowed by a more famous main event, or maybe a TV match.

They may not make your top 10 of all time or you may not think they're 'classic', but what matches do you enjoy that many fans don't talk about?? I guess there won't really be an agreement on what matches "fans don't talk about", so just put any match which may not make a "Greatest Matches of All Time" list.

For me, there's a couple of **** Title matches which I thought were really good, but seeing as it's the **** Title, didn't exactly have main event-level hype:

- Billy Gunn (wow, Billy Gunn made the list :P), VS. Al Snow VS. **** Holly at Wrestlemania 15
- Al Snow VS. Big Boss Man at Fully Loaded 1999, and again at Summerslam
- Rhyno VS. Raven at Backlash 2001

- HHH VS. Shawn Michaels at Royal Rumble 2004 was one of the main events (along with Brock Lesnar VS. **** Holly :wightlifting:) but people don't seem to remember it much

- The Great American Bash 2004 isn't considered a classic PPV, but I enjoy the Eddie/JBL Texas Bull Rope Match. I think nearly every other match on the card was thrown together that week on Smackdown :P

And I also remember enjoying a TV match a few years ago with Kane and The Undertaker VS. MVP and Mr. Kennedy where Teddy Long restarted the match twice, once with no countous and then with no DQs.

That's just off the top of my head.

Nice choice with the **** matches.

One of the first matches that comes to mind for me is Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage at Summerslam '92.  Everyone remembers the Main Event of Bulldog vs. Bret, but this one hardly every gets mentioned, maybe its the poor finish, but this match was great, for nearly 30 minutes these 2 had a classic, but most just remember their first battle at Wrestlemania VII.

Back in 2001 on Metal, Jerry Lynn and Justin Credible had a great technical match, Credible faked an injury, referee was going to wave the match off, then he cheap shotted Lynn, Lynn played the face in peril most of the match but just snatched victory, it stood out because the show generally featured short, matches with no thought, I loved this match.

Rockers vs. Barbarian and Haku, Wrestlemania VII.  I loved The Rockers as a kid and used to get old WWF VHS tapes from Blockbuster Video and for some weird reason WWF seemed intent on jobbing them out.  Wrestlemania V and VI they lost to Twin Towers and Orient Express.  They had Summerslam defeats in 6-Man action and also tag action to Power & Glory, they rarely won, so to see this great opening 10 minute victory, I really enjoyed it, classic big guys vs. small guys, Rockers trying to combat the size difference with great double team moves.

Billy Gunn's **** Title win on RAW a few weeks before Wrestlemania 15, I seem to remember him putting **** Holly through the Announce Table that had been constructed for the heel Jim Ross and the late Dr. Death
