Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat
« on: August 27, 2009, 02:26:58 pm »

I think it's mind blowing, the way this was filmed, it's like watching a fight from a classic movie.

...And best entrance music ever from Steamboat.

I remember not being as blown away as other people seemed to be when I first watched this match. Probably knowing who won took away the drama of it for me. :(

Greatest match in history, and is only rivaled by the Steamboat-Flair matches in 89.

This actually should have been the main event at Wrestlemania III. I realize Hulkamania was massive and Hogan-Andre was a big selling point of the event, but all parties involved in that had to know that nothing was gonna eclipse that match.

The match is a true work of art. Steamboat and Savage spent days rehearsing that.

This match was so good, they supposedly tried to bury Steamboat's career for showing up Hogan/Andre.

I've watched the match and I think its damn good, but I still think it is a tad overated, I guess its one of those, you had to be there to really appreciate it and soak in the build-up and all...

It was one of those matches that everyone remembers. People say it stands up today, which it partly true coz the pace of the match is alot slower but i always really liked it.

It fell in to the same category as Bret vs Bulldog, Owen vs Bret & HBK vs Taker .... just matches that you have to watch as a starting point in wrestling.

Are you serious Hammy? This match is a classic I remember watching the build up to this match where Savage came off the top rope with the ring bell into Steamboats throat. And how after it happen Savage acting like he was concern for Steamboat and Bruno Sammartian attacking Savage over it because he was Steamboats friend.

When you talk about WrestleMania matches Steamboat vs Savage is in the top 2 if not the best match of WrestleMania.  There was not a boring spot in this match, I can remember Steamboat talking about how him and Randy want to come up with  to steal the show at WrestleMania and they did just that steal the show.

Want a overrated match watch anything with the following people in it, Triple H, Randy Orton, John Cena, and you will see overrated.

I'm not sure overated is the word but its one of those matches that people always talk about when WM moments come up. It's almost a crime to talk the match down because it set the standard. But i do think that there has been any matches in the more current era that don't get the respect they deserve and if you are a relative new fan to wrestling you might find the steamboat vs savage match a little slow.

I don't think they are overated because not many say they have great matches. Although i have to say Cena vs HHH at Mania was a good match with an unbeleivable crowd at the time. But i agree that HHH & Orton can bore even their biggest fans to death.

See thats the thing, having merely seen the match, and not lived or experienced the build-up or been there at the time, to me it stands out as a very good match, but not this amazing thing that it held up to be, but I understand it could quite well be down to me not being a fan at the time.

I did buy the special edition dvd the other year (budget price) and I'm yet to watch it, but that has loads of extras so I probably need to watch that.

I mean I hold the WMX Ladder Match in very high prestige, its probably my fave match of all time, people say its been topped since, but its special to me because I remember the build and I remember it being the first 'Mania I watched live at my friends, so that in of itself are contributing factors.

Incidently these are the extras:
