R-Truth: Main Eventer?
« on: November 21, 2009, 12:50:32 am »
As seen in recent weeks, CM Punk has taken a lesser role on Friday Night SmackDown since dropping the World Heavyweight Championship to Undertaker at last month’s Hell in the Cell pay-per-view, instead being placed in a program with perennial mid-card performer R-Truth after months of top-level feuds. While it would appear that he’s been demoted, the company is looking to have him assist R-Truth for the time being by putting him over in hope that he reaches main event level status. Truth is 37, seems a bit old to suddenly be pushed to main event status. Plus, he seems a bit 'gimmicky' just now to be a main event guy. If they do something like they've done with Kingston, I could maybe see it....

^ Aye, he was believable in TNA's early days under the guise of Ron "The Truth" Killings, he worked well then.  I'm often skeptical of these "Dirt Sheet" rumours/theories.  You'll get a good idea this weekend, if he is the first eliminated you'll know this is bollocks!

A few months later and now he is vying for the World Title this weekend.  With wins over Jericho, Punk and Morrison as well as the double elimination of Show and Henry from the Royal Rumble, is he close to making that transistion up the card, or will this just be a temporary push before he returns to the role of curtain jerker?

I hate his character but i like him.

If you were gonna push someone to main event you do it from August to December not around Wrestlemania time
This is how it works, You're young until you're not
You love until you don't, You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry, You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe, Until their dying breath

After his quick elimination last night, I don't think he's quite made it yet  :hihi:

I thought is push had faltered, but now it's back and maybe bigger than ever.  His first major title (they forgot his **** Title cup of coffee reign under his other guise) and over the uber over and pushed Miz no less.  And this the day after he defeated Ted DiBiase clean.

In all fairness, I think it's smart that they are listening to the fans, when he is as over as he is, can you really deny pushing him?  The crowd getting involved with his entrance song reminds me of the days of The New Age Outlaws and "Oh You Didn't Know....."

I'm not the biggest fan of his hippenin' and hoppenin' ways, but that backstage bit he did with Ted DiBiase the other week was amusing. "I'll get back to you on that one!" "OK!" *slap*

I'm liking him a little bit more, but the US Champion's finisher should not be what is basically a forearm to the face. In fact, no one's finisher should be that. :steelchair:

I never understood the change in finisher, the Scissors Kick was alright.

The biggest problem with his finisher is it looks like a John Cena move, it doesn't even look like it connects.  Despite him being so over, the crowd falls flat when he hits it, like, "What, that's it?"

He was joking (I hope), surely, right?

Anyone find it amusing they talked about R-Truth during his match with Jericho as "Inexperienced" and a "Youngster".  Er, yeah, because before R-Truth he had no wrestling career.

With his new heel turn this thread suddenly becomes relevant again  :D

I could actually see it, because as a heel he is fantastic.  Maybe not on RAW since its the "A-Show", but definately a run as World Champion on Smackdown.  Last night his promo backstage was a great heel promo, and funny to, and having him interfere in the Main Event and attack both JoMo and Cena, made him seem more relevant and more of a big time player than he EVER has in the company.  Hopefully his forthcoming feud with Jomo elevates both of them!
