Favourite finisher
« on: November 22, 2009, 05:27:59 pm »
A good finisher is the difference between success and failure

...just look at MVP :P

What's your fav - and for this we might as well include all promotions, TNA, ROH etc

For me, and i'll keep it brief,

Double underhook facebuster, (thats Pedigree to u marks!) but Jarrett does it far better than Triple H

Canadian Destroyer - the best finisher going, and i'm still unsure what actually happens - flip....something...er...dead. Amazing Red is trying to steal it...booo!

Tombstone Pildedriver - this is a real finisher. Hit that - match over. Has an ''integrity'' as a move that makes any win via that move seem immedietly believable

Chokeslam - everyone does it these days, and its not really a finisher any more, but in the glory days Kane delivered chokeslams that just looked so freakin' cool

Diamond Cutter, Bang!

During his WCW peak it was the most over finisher, DDP '96-'97 got such a big reaction for it.  The billed the fact that the move could be hit from virtually anywhere from out of nowhere, the finishers that can just be nailed just like that are always great which brings me on to....

.....Sweet Chin Music, the way he caught Shelton Benjamin in mid air during the Gold Rush Tournament makes it a winner anyway but its good because although there often is the tuning up the band aspect it can also be nailed when you are least expecting it.

Jake Roberts DDT, the move was special then, the short arm clothesline set-up followed by the DDT, anyone wondering how over it was only had to listen to the entire crowd chanting D-D-T!  They were wise back then, to keep it special he was the only guy in the company allowed to use it, now its just another move and most don't perform it half as well....

....which brings me to Arn Anderson's Spinebuster another move which now has most people shrugging their shoulders but nobody nailed that move like Anderson, watching back old tapes its one of my favourite moves, watching Triple H do it now I have little interest, it also shows how the seemingly smallest of moves, were done were can be made to look special.

There's probably many more but those are the ones that instantly come to mind...

Stone Cold Stunner / Diamond Cutter.

Came out of nowhere. Brilliantly simple.

I used to love the Jackhammer too.... sort of fitted Goldberg perfectly.

RVD's Van Daminator and 5 Star Frog Splash were awesome too.

And my old school choice.... The Perfect Plex

Zack Attack: Very unusual but I think it looks pretty cool and convincing.

Really?

I thought it was a bit lame to be honest.

The Stone Cold Stunner has got to be my #1.

The Rock Bottom, the Angle Slam and the F5 are also pretty cool moves IMO.

the F5
I remember when Brock did it to a Shark for a Summerslam Ad, obviously not a real one, but it looked cool.

They also gave it to Matt Morgan during the last role of the dice with his character, was it Big Show he did it to?  Throw an Announce Table?

One of the greatest moves in history. Just the impact of it was immense, whether doing it to a jobber or one of the Road Warriors. Many people have kicked out of it, but that does not lessen its overall impact.

Technically it wasn't even his finisher(the brainbuster/gourdbuster was), but he became more known for the spinebuster once he concentrated on tag team wrestling.

Also agree 100000000% on Jake's DDT. The move should have been retired after his career was over because no one can do it justice. I'll never forget a Mid South wrestling match he had where after he did the move, the guy was obviously bleeding and they went to a commercial. I hope this shows up on youtube someday.

Nikita's Russian Sickle is THE absolute definition of a perfect clothesline. Dude probably spent hours a day perfecting that, and deserves to get into the HOF for that move alone.

Savage's Elbow Drop was a great finisher as well.

Stone Cold Stunner is the most pathetic move in wrestling history. Now I understand you have to take crowd reaction into consideration when judging great moves(which is why Hogan's leg drop has to be considered one of the greats), but my litmus test is how believable the actual move is. Since my great grandma's rotting corpse could kick out of a Stunner on a 1 count, it will never make my list.

Its always weird hearing about ''old'' wrestling - in the 80's I was just a kid, I had no idea about wrestling - I kinda forget wrestling existed before...well for me, about 1998....

..and the stunner is a great move, and presumably smashing someone's head into your shoulder would be fairly deadly. The stunner is the best of those 'type' of moves - RKO, diamond cutter, gringo cutter etc - stunner is the winner

You call that "smashing" and "deadly"?  :hihi: Hell, he barely even puts any effort into the move. I've seen him do it to like 5 people in 5 seconds and they're all unconscious in the ring.

Could someone post a youtube clip of his best stunner because every single one I've ever seen was pure comedy gold.

Vince and Austin are lucky that character was so popular because under no other circumstances does a move that lame win over a crowd. He would have been booed out of arenas in the 80s winning matches with that tripe.

Sad that **** fans such as yourself missed out on the golden age. You got into wrestling when it stopped being wrestling.

To be fair, he wasn't actually trying to hurt anyone. I think most wrestling moves would result in severe injury/death if they were actually done properly. I think having your face forcefully driven into someone else's shoulder would be pretty damn painful. :P

If anything, to newer fans, it's the older moves which look tame nowadays. Strange to think that moves such as the DDT, Sleeper, Spinebuster, Leg Drop etc. have gone from being match-enders to regular, everyday moves....

On topic, the Pedigree, as HHH used to do it, looked pretty cool. That was when he kept his opponent's arms locked, rather than letting go before they hit the mat.

The original stunner, viewing wise looked more damaging, but it got quicker and more from out of nowhere shocking and the opponents selling of it got more and more over the top (The Rock's was best or worst depending on how you look at it)

Check out the Austin stunner in this package....

I think what worked for it was the boom, out of nowhere he hits it, a lot of finishers need a full on set-up, thats what made the Diamond Cutter such a hit in WCW, from the samoan drop/fireman carry's position, off the middle rope, face to face, powerbomb into one, chokeslam into one, heck he reversed a jackhammer into it on Goldberg, to do the whole "Is it really damaging", fans now are more concerned with does it look cool  :P

What I've hated recently are Melina and Mickie James' moves, especially Mickie James jumping DDT where its beyond obvious, to the point you can't suspend disbelief, that her opponent is assisting with the move.

Really liked the Diamond Cutter back in the day.

Also loved Goldberg's Jack Hammer, when he nailed it perfectly it looked **** powerful.

Tombstone Pile Driver is a great finisher.

The Angle slam is cool.

Sweet Chin Music is great.

Use to love the pedigree but he doesnt nail it as good as he use to that often.

And just for the laughs, I loved Mr. Socko.  :hihi:

And believe it or not I use to love watching Orton do the build up to the RKO and nailing it. Always made me laugh and thought it fit for awhile.

I could go on and on. The stunner, just for the over the top selling of it. The sharp-shooter, the jack-knife powerbomb, and could keep going.

Should do a list of bad wrestling finishers or moves like stupid rey's 619. What a horrible move. ;D

Damn Hammy, watching that Diamond Cutter reel makes me miss Page and made me remember how much i enjoyed watching him back than.  :smoking:
Johnny Nitro or John Morrison or whatever name he wants to go by SUCKS!

I am in favor of CENA FREE WRESTLING!!

I miss HBK and Edge!

Thats it thats all I have to say...Because I'm Sober_Times, And I'm awweeesoomee!
