Well, which matches on paper did people want, sometimes for years, but when they happened, for one reason or another, they weren't too good.
First 2 that come to mind for me are:
Goldberg vs.
Brock Lesnar from
Wrestlemania and
Sting vs.
Hollywood Hogan from
Starrcade.
I think in many ways the Sting vs. Hogan match is the biggest
****-up of all time, 18 mths build, Sting in the rafters not wrestling, the hype was tremendous, it was the biggest WCW match of all time and the finish they booked, firstly was botched and secondly it was a bad choice of finish anyway. For those that don't know Sting, the WCW Hero that he was, everyone wished, hoped and thought he would slay Hogan, cleanly, the evil nWo leader and long time title holder. Logic says, Sting wins clean, everyone goes home happy. A month prior though
Bret Hart had been signed, and they thought they'd inject a bit of "Montreal" into it.
Nick Patrick the referee was meant to make a fast count after Hogan hit the leg drop, Bret Hart comes down, says it's not happening again, knocks out Patrick, restarts the match and Sting goes on to win, only Nick Patrick botched it and didn't make a fast count, he counted normally which made it look dumb, on top of that (the idea sucked anyway) and the match quality even leading up to that horrendous finish was pretty damn poor, it was a let down on all fronts after such much hype and a slow build.
As for Goldberg and Lesnar, since most of us here are long time WWE fans, I think we all know the story behind that and why it was awful, I mean in a wrestlecrap way the crowd reactions made it mildly amusing, but heck, the match was meant to be HUGE!
