Which match should Main Event at Wrestlemania?
« on: March 07, 2010, 12:02:32 am »
There are the four "Big" matches at this years show, and anyone could go on last in theory, there are arguments for all of them getting that spot.  For the "Moment" you have Bret's return, but since I expect the match to be limited I think it should be a midcard feel good moment.  Of the 2 title matches, I'd expect more hype and crowd noise for the Batista vs. John Cena bout but personally I'm looking forward to Edge vs. Chris Jericho more as these 2 can steal the show in the ring, I want the show to finish with a quality match - and moment.  That leaves Shawn Michaels and Undertaker who I think if they can recapture even half the magic of last year's should close the show, the build has been the best of the 4 so far, and I think the fans will be more into this match than any other, it it isn't on last I feel sorry for the match that has to follow it.

So, which would you put on last?

Have a feeling Edge vs Jericho will be, but nothing will top HBK/UT

That not being main event is dumb.

Michaels/Taker deserves to go on last and will likely be the best match there, but I wouldn't be disappointed if they put Edge/Jericho on last which will be a great match also. I just really, really hope Cena/Batista isn't main eventing that would be just awful.

I think Edge and Jericho should be last IMO.

Jericho has been the most consistant performer in the last 12 months and deserves it for that. But you also have to make them Main Event otherwise you de-value winning the Rumble and Edge's return. Plus HBK and Taker have headlined many times... its good to see two younger guys have the honour. Its been 7 years since one of HBK, Taker or HHH haven't been in the main event of Mania. I think i'm right in saying that Edge and Jericho have only headlined once before each and both lost.

I also think that HBK and Taker will be more than happy not being in the main event. They have enough pressure trying to live upto last years epic, which honestly is the big question of this years Mania. Can they do it again?

They may be younger, but at 36 and 39 they are hardly the future either....

They are more the future than a 44 & 45 year old. Anyway its not about the who's the future. Its about reward for Jericho, honouring the Royal Rumble promise and showing Wrestlemania season isn't all about HHH/HBK/Taker.... Which to me is a good thing.

I mean tell me you are not excited about Jericho vs Edge. Should be brilliant i think.

Yeah, I am, thing is Chris Jericho, as a headliner, is a ratings bomb, the stats don't lie.  So with that in mind, and considering John Cena and Batista are bigger draws than both Jericho and Edge, I can't see at this point in time how it would go on last, I wouldn't be against it, but I think weighing up momentum and crowd reactions, the company would be against it.

I'd be amazed if Jericho vs Edge is not last. The winner of the rumble should always be in the main event at Mania. Thats one of the best things about "The Road to Wrestlemania"

I'm not certain if the winner has ever not been in the main event.

Everytime Edge speaks he says "I won the rumble to Main Event Wrestlemania" it would be a massive blow to both men if they got bumped

Taker vs HBK will be 2nd from last splitting the title matches up. And not many will be looking forward to going on after that if its anywhere like last years match.... But i think Jericho vs Edge will be a better match than Cena vs Batista and therefore Edge vs Jericho will be last so the quality gap isn't too big

I'm not certain if the winner has ever not been in the main event.
In 1995 Shawn Michaels faced Diesel but they got bumped by Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow.

Rey Mysterio's title win after his Rumble victory didn't close the show, neither did Undertaker's or John Cena after his surprise return (probably because he wasn't booked to win it).

So that's Wrestlemania 11, 22, 23 and 24 where the Rumble winner wasn't in the final match.

So thats 4 out 25 and one of them was still the only World Title match on the card. Still im suprised its so many. Maybe they will bump it but i always think a World title should be on the line in the last match.

Personally i really hope its Edge/Jericho last. But i guess we'll see

Out of 25? I thought we were talking about Rumble winners going on to Wrestlemania for a title shot, that didn't start until 'Mania 9.  At 'Mania 8, Flair who'd won the belt by winning the Rumble match didn't Main Event either....

Taker and Michaels should get the main event - as they should have last year

The final scene being Michaels 'retirement', will be far more significant than oh, say - 'oh good god JR, HBK has quit forever - now over to John Cena'
