Your Wrestlemania Opinions
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:34:30 am »
I thought it was very good this year. Much improved from last years shambolic display.

Taker vs HBK was great.... Not sure the match flowed as well as the last one but some "Epic" moments and some great Psychology with Takers leg and the Ending was great.

Rey vs CM Punk was really entertaining and if it had been given a little bit more time could have stolen the show.

Cena vs Batista was really good and IMO was better than the Jericho vs Edge match which had a kinda odd finish.

Great to see Bret back but i was a little confused with the way they brought all the family out. IMO DH Smith and Kidd should of hit their finishers and let Bret beat him up for 5 minutes and then apply the sharpshooter. It was clear that Bret could not take any bumps. The crowd loved the sharpshooter though and you'd have to be pretty cynical to not think Bret deserved that moment.

The Diva match was kinda pointless but hey its Mania, they have worked hard all year, so they probally deserve it.

Swagger winning the MITB was a major suprise i thought for sure that Kingston, McIntyre or Christian would win it. Bournes SSP was great but no real major "Wow" moments that i can remember. I liked Kofi using the ladder as stilts. Really inventive.

HHH vs Sheamus was ok.... was a little disapointed that Sheamus didn't go over but i'm hoping thats to come.

Triple Threat was a good triple threat, Orton looked darn good, But i can see potential in Dibiase.

The Tag Match was a nice opener.... but to win with a punch at Mania was a little bit crap i thought.

All in all a good Mania, one that i enjoyed and will no doubt watch again. I think the future looks bright for WWE some real young talent coming through and who knows in 15 years we might be talking about some of these guys retiring at Mania.

My thoughts--

Tag title match--too freaking short at only 3:20!  They could have given it at least an extra five minutes.

Legacy triple threat--OK, honestly it started to pick up when Rhodes and Dibiase started feuding with one another but I hate how those two guys always look like bumbling idiots who are inferior to Orton.

MITB--entertaining not as train wrecky as I would have thought.  There was actually a structure to the match.  Suprised that Matt Hardy got in as much as he did

Rey vs CM Punk--waaaay too short

Bret Hart vs Mchmahon--disappointing in that some blood in this match would have really helped it.  Or Vinnie Mac doing anyhting on offense.  Still loved seeing the sharpshooter for one last time.

Edge vs Jericho--I was getting something to eat and only watched half the match but what I saw was good.

HHH vs Sheamus--meh didn't suck or anything,  The match was just average.

Cena vs Batista--Batista wrestled a pretty good match.  Kudos to the crowd too for cheering Batista.

HBK vs Taker--last year's was slighlty more entertaining but I think this year's was a better overall match.

Skipped the Divas match; needed a break

I think this year was better because outside of HBK-Taker part I and MITB, I don't remember anything positive from last year's card.   I remember Orton-HHH being dull as crap though.

Tag Match - Good match but too short.  As has been mentioned, the punch to finish was a bit pap.

Triple Threat - Good match, Orton was great I thought.  Surprised that DiBiase was the one pinned.  Enjoyed how Legacy went after each other.

MITB - Very surprised at the winner there.  Was an ok match but not too many big spots for my liking.

Rey vs Punk - Should have been so much longer and could have been the match of the night given the time.  Was good but not surprised about the result really.

Bret vs Vince - The "screw" was a bit crap I thought.  Having the whole family out was a bit poo.  Hart Dynasty yes, but the rest, no.  Who was the teapot woman of the family who came out last?  Match was ok and does put the whole thing to bed.  Vince took a helluva beating didn't he?  And I have to admit that the number of chair shots he was taking somewhat disturbed me.  The submission result was always gonna happen yeah?

Edge vs Jericho - Was surprised that this wasn't last on the card but if you've seen the event then it's obvious why.  Expected a lot more from these guys.  Was ok but not a classic.  Best bit was the spear on the announce tables after the match.

HHH vs Sheamus - Didn't have high hopes for this and when I noticed this was up next I went a made a cuppa.  Result I expected and wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be.

Divas Tag Match - Just as expected, a bit of filler but they all deserve their spot at WM.  As much as Vickie's character isn't liked, her little tribute to Eddie kinda bought a lump to my throat.  Every credit to her on that and it made me really glad that her team won.

Cena vs Batista - Had it's ok moments but at times it looked a little botched.  Maybe that's just me but it was just how it seemed.  Thought Batista would have retained but I now hope that Cena gets a longer run with the title.  Seems to change way too often, let's have someone have a helluva run with it.

HBK vs Undertaker - We probably all knew what the outcome of this was gonna be.  Best match of the night and deserved it's place last up.  Some great near falls, great spots (HBK on to 'Taker on announce table, got it perfect).  Fantastic finish to the match and after the bell it bought another lump to my throat.  Just fantastic.

All in all it was very good - a couple of matches could have had a few minutes more.

Plus, we got the excellent Santino comedy skit as well.  Whoo Hoo!!!

Looking back at last night i think it had one too many matches!

The Diva match was always gonna be short.... But the tag match & Rey vs CM Punk seemed very short.

They could of saved a bit of time with Bret vs Vince.

Here was my order of favourite matches:

Taker vs HBK - Great Match
CM Punk vs Rey - All Out Match
Cena vs Batista - Really suprised me with how well they did.
Triple Threat - RKO was probally the best RKO i have ever seen
Edge vs Jericho - it was ok, the ending was odd.... I expected more.
HHH vs Sheamus - ok
MITB - Swagger winning was a suprise, which i guess adds credibility to the match
Bret vs Vince - Family thing was odd, But Vince tapping to the Sharpshooter was a great moment
Tag Title - Way too short and ended with a punch
Divas - Dull

Just been watching the Bret vs Vince again.  Blimey Vince took some chair shots.    I actually felt sorry for the guy and wanted him to get up a give Vince a kicking.

Really enjoyed the show.

The nature of 10 matches on one card meant some would be "Throwaway" matches.

The opening bout had no drama, suspence, near falls etc.  It was a short, near squash match, the finish didn't bother me since that is Big Show's finisher, but the 4 involved deserved more time.

The Triple Threat was decent, seems Cody Rhodes is going with the "Gay Icon" ring attire.  It's funny how DiBiase nearly always does the job, Randy Orton is super over, funny thing is his face turn was based on his lackeys being sick of him bullying them, as enjoyable as this was I don't feel it achieved what it intended by trying to show Rhodes and DiBiase are in Orton's league.

As has been said, Money in the Bank didn't have those "Holy ****" spots of previous years, it was strictly "PG".  It was decent stuff for the most part though, Hardy's bump was probably the best, Swagger's attempt to grab the briefcase was hilarious, clearly botched it seemed like it took him forever.  Swagger has got it he just needs to unhook it, he nearly has it *10 seconds later* nearly, he just needs to unhook it, *Everyone's still lifeless* and finally, he gets it down, he really is goofy, between the lisp, the look on his face when he ran to the ring during the Royal Rumble match and his attempt to get the briefcase, no wonder my good friend Rankin predicted he'd cash it in the same night and lose, they need to do something so people take him seriously.

Triple H against Sheamus was better than expected for me, I thought it had some great dramatic moments and most importantly I think it made Sheamus look like a Main Eventer, more so than his title win or any of his cheap title defences, this was the match where I think people will now take him seriously, seeing Triple H, equally lifeless flop onto Sheamus after the final pedigree to make the cover and snatch the win, it said, this was damn hard, you took me to my limit.

Mysterio and Punk's superb in-ring chemistry continued, their match was great (while it lasted), unfortunately it was far too short, this match was another victim of there being too many matches on the card.  I expect a rematch next month, with more time and therefore a better match.

The Bret Hart thing worked, he couldn't take bumps and the whole family got retribution which they deserved if you know the backstory, those chair shots though, heck I thought Bret was shooting especially the way the refs rushed to check on Vince after.  To help the young guys, next month should be Vince and some young team vs Bret & Hart Dynasty.

Chris Jericho vs Edge was good until the flat ending.  True a heel win was never going to go down well, but after the drama of Edge kicking out of the shot with the belt, to just get hit with another codebreaker and get beaten wasn't the best, although the post match stuff was entertaining.  Personally a Jericho win for me should have involved Edge passing out in the Walls of Jericho, yes it's a WM13 rip off, but the wrestling cycle rules say that's ok.

Diva's match was mercifully short, and it didn't offend, I was amused at times, and seeing Beth is always enjoyable.

Cena vs Batista was definately the better of the 2 World Titles matches and these 2 really surprised me, they had some great drama with the Attitutde Adjustment-AlabamaSlam-Batista Bomb reversals, catching Cena off the top rope to replicate what broke his neck, and the crowd response was great too.

The best bit of the show though, without a doubt was the Main Event.  HBK vs Undertaker II.  The Moonsault through the announce table was a WOW moment, the match was a great back and forth war filled with near falls, but nothing could beat the facial reactions of the two, from Michaels mimicking the throat cut taunt of 'Taker at the start, to doing it again at the end when Undertaker told him to just stay down, then the look on his face when Michaels slapped him, followed by what was essentially a jumping Tombstone Piledriver, and the post match send-off for Michaels, as a HBK fan I got all gay like D and shed a tear, it was a magnificent moment, the only thing missing was JR on commentary as Michaels walked off, Lawler just didn't suit it.  I'll be watching that match again tonight for sure.

The early consensus seems to be that it was better than last year's and I'd have to agree, though I thought some parts weren't as good as they could've been.

The Tag Title match was a fun way to start, but as has been said, way too short. Even another 3 or 4 minutes could have given them a chance to do some more stuff. Good to see Big Show get a win at WM (the only other time he's won was at WM22, another Tag Team Title defense....).

The Triple Threat was OK, but mainly after Rhodes and DiBiase started fighting, as slashsfro said. But the only one of these guys I can personally take to is DiBiase and he was the one who got pinned. I still don't get what makes Orton so popular. That weird spasming he does very time he hits a damn move.... stop it! Not quite sure where these leaves any of these guys now; Rhodes/DiBiase feud??

Swagger winning MITB was a nice surprise even though I'd read what Hammy said in the MITB thread before the show. It didn't seem too..... clusterfucky (and yes, that should be a word) considering there were ten guys in it. None of the spots seemed too awkward and choreographed, as past MITB Matches have had. Aside from Swagger taking half an hour to unhook the briefcase, I thought this was a very good MITB Match. Plus, Swagger got me loads of points in the WWE game too. ;D

HHH/Sheamus was alright, but I expected Sheamus to win this one. I don't really have much to say about this one really. I'm not quite sure where Sheamus goes from here aside from a rematch at Extreme Rules....

Mysterio/Punk, from what I remember, was good. Punk was great, ranting at the crowd all the way down the ramp. He says pretty much the same thing every week, but he's still highly entertaining. I didn't even realise Mysterio's outfit was based on Avatar until Cole mentioned it. :-[

Personally, I thought Bret/Vince dragged on a bit. I didn't expect Bret to land however many chair shots he did on Vince, but the stuff with the Harts on the outside and the crowbar-type thing seemed to go on a bit long I thought. Plus, the crowd seemed a bit dead, but at least they came alive for the Sharpshooter. I guess you can't really expect Bret to take many bumps, but I guess I was just expecting a 'faster' match.

Jericho/Edge was enjoyable too, and the Jericho win will likely mean a rematch next month, which might be even better, considering it'll be a gimmick match of some sort. The ending did seem to come out of nowhere though.

The divas match was a bit meh as was to be expected. I'm surprised the heels won, consider it was Wrestlemania.

Cena and Batista had a very good match I thought. Wasn't ever going to be a great wrestling match, but it was a good brawl. I think they could have good matches in the future, hopefully they don't overdo it like Cena/Orton. Cena posing with the guys wearing the "WE HATE CENA" t-shirts was amusing. :D

The main event perhaps wasn't as good as last year's match, but still a very good main event. The high likelihood of Shawn losing took some of the drama away but still, for two guys in their mid-forties to still be able to go like that is impressive. I liked Taker telling Michaels to stay down instead of Tombstoning him (then promptly Tombstoning him after getting **** slapped ;D).

So yeah, I enjoyed it. Probably would have enjoyed it more if I'd been watching it live; that can add to the feel of a show. Most of the matches were at least somewhat enjoyable and hopefully the likes of Cena/Batista, Edge/Jericho and Mysterio/Punk can be built on. Overall, better than WM25. Plus, Melina made an appearance! :D That entire Santino segment was bizarrely funny.

Jericho and Edge 9/10 excellent

Cena and Batista  8/10 I actually like when these guys wrestle each other.... like multiplication times a negative with a negative get a positive....

UT vs HBK 10/10  can't say much else about it.

I think what kills WWE for me is the announcing.Use to JR and Lawler were amazing to listen to

now.. michael Cole is just terrible........... if i here him say "Vintage" one more time i am going to Elvis my **** TV

Christian hit his reverse DDT thing on Hardy and he called it a twist of fate from Hardy... He is always screwing **** up

Stryker is ok but says too much captain obvious **** and where does so and so get the will and strength to continue on................ STFU

Cena is more powerful than Batista even though Batista is built like the incredible Hulk? just retarded **** drives me nuts.

 :o :o

I'm amazed that you think Jericho vs Edge was better than Cena vs Batista. I was quite down about the Jericho/Edge match. I expected more as where i thought Cena & Batista excelled all expectations.

I watched Mania again today and i really think that Rey vs CM Punk was great. The SES is great and they take that into matches too!

Ok so here is the million dollar question:

Bell to Bell.... which HBK vs Taker match do you prefer?

Personally i thought the 1st match flowed alot better but the 2nd match gave me more twist and turns. I'd say that if you were rating the matches the first one would get a better rating, but if you offered me one to own for soem reason i'd take the 2nd one.

Aside from the final few minutes, the 1st match easily.

Nothing is better than their first match

plus, the Last Ride flub was shitty............. the announcers made it even worse.

did he mean to moonsault on UT's leg? kinda worked since UT leg was damaged but i think he missed.

i liked edge and jericho and i gave it a higher score cause Jericho won.. i was fully convinced Edge would win... so i liked the weird ending cause I didn't expect it.

PG WWE get use to it fellas... no more heel winning via violent cheating. we are back to title belts doing serious damage since Chairshots are illegal.
