R.I.P. Chris Kanyon
« on: April 03, 2010, 05:31:36 pm »
According to prowrestling.net, Chris Kanyon (real name Christopher Klucsartis) was found dead from an apparent suicide on Friday night. Details are still sketchy at this point, but it is believed that he was in New York at the time of his death. A longtime friend reports that a pill bottle and several notes were found close to the body.

Kanyon also worked as the masked Mortis character in WCW and also had a run with WWE during the Invasion period. He made headlines after his WWE run concluded by going public with his homosexuality. He appeared on the Howard Stern radio show several times as a result of his admission. Even though he retired from wresting at one point, he had returned to the ring again recently and had worked a couple of matches this year.

Tara (via her official MySpace page): "Chris Kanyon was a great guy and wrestler. He will be missed by all."

Stro "The Maestro of Wrestling" (via his official MySpace page): "RIP Chris Kanyon"

Brian Heffron (aka The Blue Meanie, vis his official Twitter page): "Rest in Peace Chris Kanyon! Gone WAY too soon!"

Joe Hennig "RIP Chris Kanyon"

Kevin Nash "R.I.P Chris Kaynon prayers to his family and friends."

Mr. Anderson "RIP Chris Kanyon"

Hurricane Helms "Got woken up to some terrible news. Not another one!! Dammit"

R.I.P.

Damn shame, I liked him in WCW and thought his role as the Alliance MVP was one of the few highlights of the Invasion.

I remember my friend and I finding it very amusing when he got out of a limo on the episode of Raw when The Rock was due to return, during the Invasion. Vince and Shane were both trying to get The Rock to side with them and were waiting in the car park all night. Howard Finkel got out of one limo, and Kanyon got out another, thinking that everyone was waiting for him. :hihi:

RIP

Not that I want to get into some big argument over this, but I've never understood that way of thinking. I think it's tragic that someone can reach that level of depression.

The cruelest thing about the wrestling industry is that for many its their only option - and when their run ends....where do they go? WWE guys go to TNA, TNA guys are left travelling across the country for a few dollars and dismal crowds

Must be gut wrenching to have walked out in front of 20,000 to one day find yourself forgotten and doing indy shows

Wrestling needs somewhere for these people to go - but I'm not sure what that would be, and at the moment it just seems to be despair

Very sad, RIP Kanyon

TNA President Dixie Carter posted the following yesterday on Twitter about the late Chris Kanyon: “On behalf of everyone at TNA, our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Chris Kanyon.”

- WWE issued the following statement about Kanyon’s death:

World Wrestling Entertainment would like to express its deepest condolences to Christopher Klucsaritis’ family and friends on his tragic passing. Klucsaritis was under contract with WWE from March 2001 until February 2004 and performed under the name “Chris Kanyon.”

Very good (yet upsetting) article about him in the latest Powerslam magazine, well worth a read, James Mitchell talks about what a great guy he was and also the part concussions may have played in his death.
