As usual, live in the UK means 1.am.-4.am I'm up at 7.30am.  Those bastards at the job centre have me going to some training company, or some crap like that.  Now normally I'd stop up anyway and prop myself up with coffee, but I'm been ill with a virus for 5 weeks, so that little sleep when I'm ill is pretty dumb, so I'm just going to watch it when I get home tomorrow lunch time.

Rumble match was ok, although there never seemed to be too many in the ring at once.  Quick eliminations was the order of the day for a lot of them.  Have to admit a certain joy at HHH going out when he did, not even in the last 4.  And was well pleased with the result at the end of it (despite my prediction being wrong).

Rest of card was a bit underwhelming for the most part I thought, maybe apart from The Miz and MVP putting on a half decent bout.

Christian and Big Zeke - disappointed wth the result really but an ok opener.

Sheamus and Orton didn't really offer anything but very strange hearing cheers for Orton.

Womens Championship - well hopefully that will be the end of that storyline now.  Filler.

Undertaker didn't seem his usual PPV self and at times, in my opinion, seemed a little uninterested.  May just be me though.  Didn't really work I don't think.

WINNING the WWE Royal Rumble is always billed as the ultimate opportunity, so how fitting then that it should be won in 2010 by the Ultimate Opportunist.

At last night's PPV, Edge returned from a seven-month absence due to an Achilles tendon injury to be a surprised entrant in the annual 30-man battle royal.

After shocking us all by appearing at No 29, he outlasted many other top superstars including Shawn Michaels, John Cena and Batista to win the prestigious event.

He also got his hands on Chris Jericho, the man with whom he was Tag team Champions before his layoff and who had said some unflattering things abut the Rated R Superstar.

Edge's early return from injury to win the Rumble evokes memories of two years ago when John Cena — after telling SunSport he would be out until well past the event — showed up as entrant number 30 to win in Madison Square Garden.

This year wasn't one of the greater Royal Rumble matches, but it moved on at a very fast pace and provided plenty of talking points.

The first to take the attention was CM Punk. Entering at No3 and removing the first two entrants, Dolph Ziggler and Evan Bourne, he systematically eliminated superstars, while also trying to recruit for his Straightedge Society.

One unwilling participant was the Great Khali, but his evening would change dramatically when he was eliminated by, of all people, Beth Phoenix.

Only the second woman to enter the Rumble after Chyna, Phoenix was put on the apron and told to leave by Khali. The Glamazon instead planted a smacker on the lips of the Punjabi Playboy, and his momentum took him over the top. Punk soon threw Beth out.

Soon, Triple H would face and remove Punk and this started the longest run of the match of superstars entering the match and staying for a while.

Favourite Shawn Michaels was No18, and he and Hunter rid the ring of everyone between them. Before they could fight, though, John Cena came to ring at No19.

Cena began to dominate DX, but eventually they turned the tables, with Trips hitting a Pedigree. No sooner had he done so, though, than Shawn nailing Sweet Chin Music on his colleague, eliminating him. The DX breakup tease goes on.

Little else was notable in the match, save for a big moment for R-Truth who eliminated Mark Henry and Big Show at the same time, until Edge's music surprised many.

After Edge ejected Jericho, Batista joined him along with HBK and Cena to comprise the final quartet in the match. Shawn found himself on the apron after tangling with Edge, only for Batista to put him out. Shawn acted very distressed about losing his chance to meet The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

Cena threw Batista out, but fell victim to Edge soon after. It is not really known whether Edge will be back as a babyface or heel, but he got a hugely positive reaction on his reappearance.

It seems unlikely that he would challenge Sheamus or Undertaker, so perhaps look for Jericho to steal the Smackdown world title from Taker in three weeks, and Edge to challenge him at Mania.

Undertaker, as you may have gathered, retained his title in a decent match earlier in the evening with Rey Mysterio.

It was a long way short of a classic, but considering the limitations of Taker fighting a man over a foot smaller than himself, they put together a neat match.

The Pheom countered a West Coast Pop into a Last Ride for the win.

Raw's figurehead is still Sheamus, who retained his WWE title in a match against Randy Orton.

He did so due to a disqualification against Orton, thanks to Cody Rhodes' interference. Orton beat down Cody and Ted DiBiase after the match, but in turn fell prey to a Pump Kick from Sheamus. Surprisingly, Legacy barely featured at all in the Rumble.

The opening contest saw Christian defeat Ezekiel Jackson to cling on to his ECW title, and in doing so carried Big Zeke to a match which outweighed expectations. Christian has done a great job as ECW champion and move to a bigger brand must be imminent in any post-Mania draft.

MVP and The Miz featured in an impromptu US Title match, with Miz winning with a sneaky inside cradle. Although it was a fun, short match, it seemed hastily booked and would have felt nicer as a hyped match on a Raw show and given more time.

Mickie James was the only person to win a belt, defeating Michelle McCool in less than 30 seconds.

There was a lengthy build to the match as McCool gained more heat with her Piggy James routine, along with Layla. Mickie emerged, nailed the DDT, and earned her fifth run as women's champ.

All the babyface divas celebrated with Mickie by helping her smash a cake into Michelle and Layla's face.

But the night belonged to Edge, and leaves the rest of us furiously recalculating our WrestleMania predictions.

The next two months promise to be very interesting indeed.

We give WWE Royal Rumble 7 out of 10.

I liked it.  The first 2 matches were nothing to write home about and neither was the Women's bout, but the other 3 I enjoyed.

Mysterio and 'Taker worked well together and had the best singles match of the night, both guys looked strong and their were some good near finishes and interesting counters based on the small man, big man dynamic.  The commentary at times was horrendous (throughout the night), but in this match you probably had one of the worst comments (only beaten by Striker saying Edge "Doesn't look his old self" later and Lawler out of character saying "You what?") where Lawler talked about how shocked he was to see Undertaker bleeding, he didn't know Undertaker, bled, or that the blood would be....red.  It sounded plain retarded, especially considering the wealth of blade jobs he has done over the years

Randy Orton appeared to be uber over, the crowd were very much behind him and his match with Sheamus was enjoyable, even with the cheap finish as it worked with the storyline of Legacy breaking up, bit by bit, although The Legacy (Tag Team), looked scared and weak when Orton attacked them and later in the Rumble match they didn't get much of a look in either, I really wonder whether creative care about these 2 at times.

I thought it was a good idea to keep a decent pace in the Rumble match, too often the match gets slowed down with 7 or 8 guys filling the ring, lying on the canvas, waiting for a big man to just come down and clear the ring.  I thought CM Punk was superb to start with, the Rumble gave him a chance to get his heel gimmick over some more, made him look strong, and my only criticism is that he didn't get to stay in the match longer.  I was shocked to see Triple H go out so soon, for those who read spoilers, he had been touted as the winner.  R-Truth was a surprise to, I thought he was getting a moderate push, but to single handedly eliminate Show and Henry was quite the rub.  Swagger must getting most stupid face when running to the ring award, he looked so goofy its untrue.  Matt Hardy looks to be in the bad books, or just forgotten, he had a cup of coffee appearance, if that.  Edge's return although predicated, was a great to see, and at the time, a nice surprise since there were 2 spots left and in my head I knew Regal AND Batista were still to come.  HBK's put in a solid performance as usual, and seeing the way he reacted when he got eliminated really sold the fact that he is beyond desperate for a match with Undertaker, he once another good chapter in that storyline, I also thought it was a good elimination, the way he teetered on the edge, for a brief second I thought he'd fallen by mistake, especially since after Triple H's elimination I thought he'd win and get his shot.

The Rumble now leaves some interesting questions, Edge has the shot, who will he face? HBK needs to find a way to face Undertaker, but how? Will D-X finally split? Will Triple H be able to earn a title shot?

I think what made it funny was he wasn't even trying to be goofy....

maybe the worst RR ever

the matches were snoozefests cept for UT and Rey

Didn't like the RR either. wasn't captivating.. once HBK went out, I knew Edge was def winning

I like when a new star is built by surviving the Rumble.... but that didn't happen as nobody really stayed in the rumble that long

Greg sent the following: This year’s Royal Rumble match was the third shortest Rumble match ever at just over 49 minutes long. The 1988 and 1995 Rumbles are the other two shortest.

- The original ending for the 30-man Royal Rumble match on Sunday had Edge eliminating Chris Jericho to get the win. WWE decided to change the finish and have Edge eliminate John Cena last.

I actually liked the Royal Rumble.

Taker vs Rey was good and Christian vs Zeke was ok. The Royal Rumble match may have been short but I liked it.

Only watched the Rumble and not the matches yet but I agree here.  I prefer one where there are some people in the ring but the one last night seemed like the eliminations were a bit too fast and pacing was a bit off.  I was shocked that they didn't try to build a new star though.  CM punk is already established and Cena is like a major star; they couldn't have given Morrison or some other guy a rub by having him eliminate a bunch of guys  or staying in there the longest?
